magazine metal floor plates for 3913, etc

Do I need to save any mags for you ? The ones I was holding for you for the last bunch have been sold, but you know I have more.

A pic reference for this thread.

I'll take the middle one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

the metal body of the 8rd mag extends below the grip frame about 1/4-1/3" see post #10 and Oldman10mm's pictures.

I am actively searching the local shops which has been fruitful, but not for this haha!
(Found 6 6906 mags in new condition at a gunshop in Gray, Maine in a tub for a song, and Kittery Trading Post has a big bin chock full of oddball magazines that I buy every 3rd gen mag out of. So far none of what we are looking for but a bunch of good stuff nonetheless.)

I have a MK9 magazine and I considered taking the metal base plate and putting it on one of my 3913LS magazines.

But looking at it, the 3913 magazine is almost as long with the metal plate as with the factory black plastic (non-finger extension version).

The factory black plastic plate only extends the overall length by less than 1/16 inch.

Not worth doing it, in my opinion.

I don't mind the flat baseplate 8rd mag. extending 1/4" below the grip frame as that has no practical impact on Concealed carry.

That said; the 7rd magazine +1 and a spare 8rd mag. ( maybe 2 sometimes :D) is GTG in "the Burbs of the Burgh"........ I like the look..... which no one else ever sees!!!!!!!!!

Ohhhh, so YOU'RE the guy that raids the bargain bin at KTP. No wonder I haven't found any 3rd Gen magazines in my last few trips. Knock that off! :D

Did you snag any of those 40xx blue followers they had a few years ago? Some agency must have traded in all of their 3rd Gens because the bin was full of them.

I've found some good deals on 3rd Gen magazines up there.

Grey, ME huh? I'll have to check that one out.

The mags from my post #17,tubes only, the metal bottom plate one is slightly shorter than the 8 rounders.
2nd pic showing all parts, the metal bottom plate 7 rounder has a spring with many extra coils on each end.
I used the spring from the 8 rounder into the 7 round tube(and not using any spring bottom plate) and that 7 rounder will now hold 8.

I am that guy. I work on the shipyard and have an hour between the end of my work day and picking my kid up from school basically 9 days out of 14. So, if you see a handsome bald-headed middle-aged Navy guy walking around in there, it's me, and the only reason a 3rd gen S&W stays on the shelf in KTP is if it's already in my collection, or it's in .40 cal.
As for mags, I am a reasonable man. I have given away several from the KTP bin to forum members as they develop the same sickness as you and me.

Nicely done my friend. I appreciate the info!

Oldman10mm....thanks for contributing the great images for reference, so helpful along with info (from everyone!).

to be clear, is your middle mag from picture in post#17 the one that came with LS models, and holds 7 rounds stock? I was thinking the mag tube would be same length as TSW and CS9...being they have same capacity. Very interesting. I have all sorts of base plates on order now, will be fun to swap things out and see how they work.

Sounds like if I want that sweet "flush" look for any of my 3913's (jsbethel #24), I'll need to find myself one of those tubes specific to 3913 with metal base plate. Since those sound pretty dang rare these days, I'm hoping 8 shot tube with kahr base plate will suffice. I know they stick out a little, but looks decent in squidsix's pics in my opinion.

You're in no danger of me scooping a 3rd Gen out from under you, as they won't ship guns to the PRM. They'll see us long guns, but we can pick those up at the store, so it's not big deal.

I look in the used gun cases anyway, just see what might be there. They usually have a few 3rd Gens in the case, but they have a lot more Sigs and 1911s of all flavors. And of course used polymer stuff from S&W.

No practical difference. The S&w ones are cheap. Kahr wants $9.50 for theirs. I just had some in the parts bin.

Thanks for answer on that. I wish I knew about the S&W ones earlier....my searches were fruitless. I've got some of the Kahr ones coming at $8 each plus shipping. Factory ones at half that price would have been better...but I think the stainless ones (kahr) on stainless gun with grey factory grips will look nicer than blued. Next time I place a parts order at numrich (shouldn't be too long), I'm adding some of the factory bases to try out. Interesting that the P938 bases fit also...I wouldn't think there would be so much cross-brand compatibility on these (sig and kahr probably designed mags after S&W 3rd gens?). It's nice to know though!

The Sig 938 is a 9mm sized mag with an insert when chambered 380. Subsequently the floorplate fits. I am sure dozens of mags parts will fit. How different can single-stack 9mm mag bodies be from one another?

True, but i'd think they would vary more on the length/width of tube flanges, floor plate attachment method, detent hole placement, etc. Unless you have many brands of guns in same caliber, you'd never know (as you can't try swaps, etc). Only 9mm I have is 3rd gen S&W...I thank the Lord above for this forum and knowledgeable folks like you!
