I am thinking of picking up a set of MBUS, a CTR stock, and a VFG2 in Magpul PTS, is this stuff okay to use on the 15-22?
I am trying not to spend a ton of money on this gun and was just wondering if this stuff is cheap **** or good enough for a plinking gun.

I bought Magpul gear but...

Other members have said the afg's are fine. Some say the MBUS is fine, but I would get the real thing. The CTR stock fits, but I've read the friction lock doesn't work and that's the point of the CTR.

That being said I can't see the AFG2 in PTS giving you issues, but for the other two I would get the real deal.
 
afg2 - agreed there shouldnt be much of a difference.

ctr - i have the pts and didnt realize the friction lock wouldnt work. that said, i ended up using strips of electrical tape to remove any wiggle from it. its not worth the hassle to send back but id just get the moe pts stock and save $5-10.

mbus - from what ive learned, the pts is just a plastic version made in china and the reliability is hit or miss. if you want it for the look, then get them. if you want them to really work then get the real deal. i dont need backup sights for a .22 rifle so i just run my red dot or scope.
 
I agree with the general trend here.. I don't think the 22 is going to stress out paintball parts, but considering the overall cost of the 15-22 and the "resale value" of the standard magpul parts I would just get the AR parts. I sold the Magpul BIUS for $85 IIRC.. and paid for my Burris scope mount. Ron

PS: I prefer the Rogers Super Stoc over the Magpul
 
None of the parts you mention should give you any hassles.

These are going on a .22 range toy, not a combat weapon in the 'Stan.

My PTS parts are GTG. Yours may vary. However the sights are perfectly fine for what they are, BACKUP sights. Meaning you are running another form of aiming, and they are there in case it fails. For that they will do the job. Will they allow you to hit oxygen bottles at 1000 yards? No. If you want to only use iron sights, the ones that come with the gun are pretty decent. Otherwise light weight and cheap are great.

My stock works 100% as per the original Magpul stuff does. Friction lock and all. Maybe yours will too? I find it works just great for a .22.

The AFG is definately GTG. There is nothing it needs to do that the real one will do any better. See comment about the 'Stan. Is the plastic one going to break under stresses the real one won't? Sure. Why you putting those stresses on a .22?

Got the PTS CRT stock in and got it mounted. Really loose on the buffer tube, and yes, it is a milspec, the pin that the release lever pivots on is a little too short and moves back and forth a little too much allowing the lever to slip off the pin on one side or the other occasionally.
The detent ball on the locking lever doesn't "detent" very well, but good enough. It doesn't "lock" anything though. As a matter of fact I can't see how it does anything at all? There is no metal insert in mine like I have seen on others in videos, it just goes up and down with the detent ball holding it the up or down position, go figure...
I fixed the "looseness" with a piece of velcro tape, works like a champ. Tight and smooth now. (seen a video fix on youtube).
All in all not bad for the price, but I would not run one of these on a .223 AR or bigger.

The AFG2 is perfect, I really dig it. It's as good as the regular ones in my opinion.

Still waiting on the sights...
 
I have the PTS AFG 2 and it's done great. Only real difference I can see is that the bolt falls out when you unscrew it vs. The real deal that stays in the recessed hole. As far as PTS, that's the only part I would put on this gun. Anything that moves, turns, rolls, flips, flops or slides, I would get genuine Magpul. The 15-22 may just be a .22, but it's still a real deal gun.
 
i used the PTS MBUS sights on my DPMS AR-15, they seem to work fine for me.

and added the PTS AFG to my 15-22 :D

What's the point of PTS? From the retailer prices that I see online, the CTR stock and MBUS sights only save you a few bucks. And I mean a FEW bucks.

i got my PTS MBUS sights (front and rear) for 14.99 shipped.. :cool:

edit: looks like they are 22 bucks for the set now on amazon

Those are knock off copies. The real PTS units are really just a few bucks cheaper than the standard Magpuls.

There were a bunch of threads on the knock-offs here about a year ago. If you look at the threads you'll find info on how to tell the difference.

I have a set of the knock offs. You definitely get what you pay for.
 
I have the ctr pts, 22$ shipped eBay, works good, tight, locks, way tighter than the stocker. Got the mbus pts, 18 shipped eBay, works good @ 50 yards havent used those any further but I don't need a back up on this weapon, they mostly for looks. If I need good iron sights on there I will put the stockers back on, got the angled foregrip 17 bucks shipped, obviously works fine. There is my PTS experience in a nutshell.

Not gonna argue that the price is cheaper. The reality is that at that price, they aren't real PTS units. They're knock offs. I've seen "PTS" sight sets avertised for as low $15.95 shipping included.

I mounted the rear knock off sight on my 15-22. The front one was so crappy, it wouldn't work right so I put the oiginal factory sight back on.

Since I also have a scope and a TRS-25 red dot, I've never used the BUIS at all. So the fact that the rear aperture flips randomly between the two different hold sizes isn't that big of a deal.
 
I can't see PTS anywhere in the link you posted. That tells me someone is selling non PTS fakes and is trying to pass them off as the real deal.

PTS products use to be required to have PTS markings on them. Not sure if that's how it is these days. The fakes usually have swirl marks in the polymer, but not all of them.


The item specs made me laugh.

Well it's not the stupidest thing I have ever bought, but close! Maybe I should "READ" the ads before buying stuff huh?! lol

Oh well, live and learn...


(The box says PTS, but nowhere on the stock does it say it)

The majority of so-called MagPul PTS items available on eBay are Chinese-made fakes. Real PTS items are only marginally cheaper than the "big boy" items.
 
I've found the use of PTS vs Real Magpul really depends on your market. Locally they put a markup on the dollar cost. So a "few" bucks becomes double a few, then they convert it to local currency, so the saving is marked.

Also, a couple of bucks is a box of ammo :-)

I've seen a couple fake PTS parts, I even use a fake PTS MBUIS. I solved the flippy aperture by simply cutting the small hole off :-) but that was on an Airsoft gun. Works well enough for that. You get what you pay for.
