Mags for guns I dont own...yet

I had them all at the April 23rd 'bunch',in 'tupperware' bins in the trunk. BRatliff did get a 4513TSW 6rd mag from me for his 3rd gen pistol display. Difficult to put out all those mags at a 'bunch' where it's all revolvers on display.
Along with those 45s' I mentioned in my previous post,I got
5-CS9/3913TSW 7rd
4-3913/908 8rd
11-69xx 12rd
6-59XX 15rd
1-909/3904 9rd

2-CS40/4040PD 7rd
12-4013 8rd
4-4013TSW 9rd
2-4006 11rd

11-10XX 9rd

that's only 65 mags, hardly enough to be considered 'king of 3rd gen mags'

Hopefully you're never in the situation where it's essential - but if you were in Colorado before it became Kolorado, you could have been looking at: "If I don't buy MP5 magazines now, any future MP5 I buy will have to use 15-round magazines if they even exist" and then swap MP5 for any gun you might ever want...

For rare guns/magazines it's even worse "I may not be able to find one of these.... ever" Go find a Wildey magazine for instance - and that's not even mentioning the price.
I understand but in that case I just wouldn't own an MP5. Kinda like I want a Ferrari but it's just not going to happen

Well, whoever has more (of the very rare & expensive ones) let them come forward!!! :D

Until then, VOUS are the "King of 3rd Gens Magazines" in my book! ;)

Perhaps Solomon's chosen example wasn't the most compelling to us everyday handgun folks... and I do understand that you live in a great market and where magazine limits at the state level will probably never exist... but for some of us it makes gobs of sense to buy the rare discontinued or "pre-ban" magazines first and the pistols that use them later (if successful in finding the magazines you seek, of course). :)

You could never survive in crazy moonbat Massachusetts. :p You'd go out of your mind. ;)

I'm frustrated as heck right now. I have the "pre-ban" problem, of course. I own seven pistols that take 5900-series magazines and I can't find or buy full capacity magazines for them anywhere unless I am willing to pay a king's ransom. Even then it isn't easy as some shops can't confirm that their old used magazines are "pre-bans" and so they refuse to sell them. I bring proof but it doesn't matter. :( I swear they must think I'm an undercover agent of our anti-2A moonbat lady AG.

Currently don't have any Smith 39s but would like a 639..... IIRC "the stash" has about a half dozen 39 mags......
Smart! Smart! Smart! :D

I, too, am collecting old Model 39/39-2 magazines when I am able to find them at an acceptable price. Sometimes I do okay... other times it's price insanity!

One small dealer had one so old and RUSTY that I almost thought he would give it to me just to get it out of his shop. :) Seriously, I could barely tell what it was under all the rust. :p

No way José!!! He wanted $65.00 plus tax for that ugly piece of rusting steel.

Needless to say, I walked.

Rare........

I've got at least 12 maybe 15 of the flush fit, 7 round, steel base plate 3913 magazines (shipped with 1st year LS's)....... my primary in the gun carry mag for my 3913/14s and NLs....... backed up with 1 or 2 8 round mags.

.....6 Factory 20rd mags for the 59xx series................

And 20+ 8 round Beretta 92 Compact Type-M magazines...... they're going for $60 + these days.....

LOL in the wacky AWB 90s I figured the low cap magazine cut off would (at the worst) be at 7 or 8 because of all the 7 &8 round 1911 magazines in the country........

Well, the wacky AWB lives on in moonbat Massachusetts. :( I'm sure it is permanent here... at least until the next American Revolution! :D Fortunately, most dealers have plenty of almost reasonably-priced "pre-bans" for AR's and AK's. It can get tougher for some of the hi-cap handguns. You can always get some for Glocks but you will pay a completely insane price these days. :o

The "pre-ban" 15-round 5900-series magazines have the near-unique problem of few discerning features and poor documentation of those pre-ban vs. post-ban features. I should have bought a ton more when I had the chance a year or two back.

Next weekend is the Novi Mich show. I was there in January and on the drive back to NE Ohio,I got upset with myself about not buying some of the mags I saw there, some rare, some still in OEM blister packaging. If I make that show,I'll be adding to my 'king of 3rd gen mags' stash.
The clip/mag guy that I get a lot of interesting ones from at the NE Ohio shows hasn't been participating lately, heard there's some health problems with someone in his family.

Well, I am going out again this afternoon in search of 3rd Gen magazines. :o After yesterday's complete failure (which I should have seen coming - My Bad!), I've just got to try again.

If that doesn't work, I'll try to attend the West Springfield, MA show next weekend. And if that fails, I'll simply have to pay the scalper's crazy prices or do without. :(

good luck in your search, the mags ARE out there.
Yes, but I've bought them all up! :D Well, except for the ones that GaryS got to first! :p

Actually, my luck has been pretty good overall. :) I really shouldn't complain too much. ;) It's just those damn 15-round 5900-series "pre-ban" magazines that are eating my brain out. :(

I understand. I just have a different approach. I'd probably just carry something like a 1911 or a Glock 26/30/36 or Sig 220/225. Walther PPS, Kahr, Shield....etc...etc.

Even here in Pa I've gotten rid of guns with notoriously hard to find mags. And aside from mags I won't buy a gun unless it already has what I'm looking for.

...you live in a great market and where magazine limits at the state level will probably never exist...

Even 5yrs ago I would have said I did. If it can happen to us, it can happen to you too. We should have learned from Kalifornia, for that matter, we still SHOULD!

I have never done that with magazines but I did buy a set of 7mm Mag reloading dies several months before I bought a 7mm Mag rifle.

I occasionally buy magazines...but more often stocks that I know might be hard to find. I figure if I never get the gun myself, I can likely "make someone's day" here on the forum when they are looking for a pair.

Wait till you start buying holsters for guns that you don't own yet!!!

I cannot seem to walk past Milt Sparks, Kramer, Davis etc.....even if I don't have the gun I still am buying them. Sometimes for less than$10.00!

I should have been doing this - wish I'd bought more of the DeSantis "Tuck This" for the HK P7 back when they still made them :(

Once the guns go out of production the holsters follow, and then when you pick up (another) dream gun and can't find holsters for it, life gets grumpy.

Well, you still have it pretty darn good compared to us here in MA. We can have any size magazines as long as they are pre-bans (pre-1994). :( You can have ANY magazines you want, including brand new ones, up to 15 rounds PLUS you get to keep what you already had (with plenty of warning to buy more) in magazines over 15 rounds. :)

I'm not saying it's a good situation... but compared to us here in MA, you have it made in the shade magazine-wise. ;)

No luck today either but I didn't get as far as hitting my prime prospect. :o Breaking for the long weekend now... but I'll resume the "quest" for more used 3rd Gen magazines next Tuesday or Wednesday! :D

You wouldn't believe this...but I've bought mags for guns that haven't even been invented yet, in case they are invented, and they have mags over 15 rounds. Which, as everyone knows now, are MUCH more evil than mags of 15 rounds or less. Hello, Kolorado!
