We get letters most days. It is nuts around here who gets to read first... And then waiting to talk about it.

They are finishing up on the range this week and she was disappointed that they didn't stay in the barracks there due to repairs. So they are bussing. She wanted to stay there because that's one of the haunted hot spots on the Island. It is near Ribbon Creek where the 6 boots died on a night hike in 1956. She says the range looks just like it was shown in Full Metal Jacket! She also leads the rifleman's creed.

She screamed when they rappelled and got on the DIs radar...but at least she didn't have to be pushed. She has learned to just yell Aye Ma'am do whatever and roll with it (I tried to get this taught many years!)

She grows letter to letter and is thankful for the Gideons because she left her Bible at home.

Her platoon has rep for being awesome good and drills and inspections seem to reflect that.

She talks about being a career Marine until retirement. I think it suits her.

The realization for me is that she is for all intents and purposes an adult on her own...we will just be a crash pad or visitation stop on liberty. And I am really, really good with that on many levels.

I'm sorry there hasn't been much to share but in addition to my surgical recovery I'm nursing an old stubborn cat. I have to force feed him every 2 hours. He is knocking on heaven's door and I've had some bad vet experiences this week...we're all a bit tired.

Those of you who have written Jar Wrench and otherwise offered support...thank you. Before we know it we'll have grad pics. We make travel arrangements this week!

It is my firm belief that she screamed from the sheer joy of rappelling. It is fun.:D

Glad to hear all is going well. Best of luck to her. She sounds like she'll a have great career.

Bless you for your unwavering support. Parents like you help to mold our future leaders successfully. (Yeah, I know it's corny, But it's true).

You will be amazed, or maybe not, at how fast she will mature now. It's the nature of the beast. I'm sure you enjoyed her childhood but she's now grown and growing more each day. That's great and sad at the same time, but it is what it is.
Be proud and give her our best and thanks for what she's doing!

Sorry to hear about the cat, Cap. How is your recovery coming along?

As for your lady Gyrene, it sounds as if she is a natural for this, and maturing enormously. I hope she knows how many old guys on this forum are rooting like hell for her. And for you and Mr. Wrench and your whole family.

I know she doesn't get any computer time yet, but just wait intil you get the chance to skype with her. We couldn't belive the change in Jason the first time. And then there's the pic in dress blues after graduation....amazing! Time will go fast Cap, and itsounds like she's doing well. What was her score at the range?

I will be sure to share this as soon as we get it. I expect competent but not spectacular in this regard.

But I sure as heck hope for the moon!

someone asked about my recovery...ugh. I woke up sick from procedure. Then the pain meds kept me sick...I've been trying to do too much. My cat is in bad, bad shape. An 18 lb cat down to 8.5 lbs. He can walk now, wobbly of course, and things are much less disgusting...he fights very hard to be left alone to die. I think if he has that much fight there's still much life left to die and he is responding to the meds. Very, very slowly.
