Mass compliant baloney

I've got a .40c purchased in Oct. '13 in Mass, SKU #106303. There is nothing on the box about trigger pull. Nor can I find anything on the S&W web site about trigger pull relating to this SKU. I've read the Mass law and it states that for DOUBLE ACTION SEMI-AUTOMATIC pistols, the trigger pull must be 10.5 lbs. There is no way in hell that the trigger pull on my .40c is 10.5 lbs, so the question is: does Mass consider the M&P .40c to be a single or double action pistol? What does S&W consider them to be?
Also have a BG.380 SKU# 109380, which is DOA and that definitely has a long pull that I could believe is 10.5lbs, but also says nothing on the box about trigger pull.

I have an MP40c also that I bought in Plymouth about five years ago...maybe a little less. It had the standard 10.5 or 11 pounds that Mass requires. The shop charged me $20 bucks on the spot to change it out to the MP standard, which I think is 6.5 lbs. My understanding is that you can modify it to less but they cant sell it new with anything less.

All of my M&P's were bought with the Mass "compliant' trigger pulls and all of my M&P's have had trigger jobs to fix that.
There's nothing illegal for me to do that with my firearms.

How about the 10 round mag limit unless it's "pre-ban" before 1994.
There are manufacturers who refuse to submit firearms to be tested and approved by the state. We're just lucky that S&W is located in Mass so they have many of their firearms approved.

It is completely legal to swap out the trigger for an aftermarket unit. The 10-round magazine limit is silly. The biggest pain is that dealers can't transfer a huge number of good pistols into the state. Name a high-quality builder of 1911's, like Wilson, Les Baer, etc. and they're not available. No Freedom Arms or BFR revolvers, either. And the attorney general threatens to sue any company that she finds out is selling ammo or reloading supplies into the state.

Based on a quick look at the S&W site, 106303 is not the SKU for the MA compliant 40c, 109253 is.

According to the 2014 S&W catalog, the 106303 is a free state 40c with thumb safety and "standard" trigger pull. The MA version does not have a thumb safety but has a magazine safety and has a really bad 10.5lb trigger.

Both versions come with 10 round mags.

All that said, getting a really good trigger pull is not very hard. Where are you in MA? If you're close to the North Shore, I would be happy to help you.

The 10 round limit seems to be a popular panacea but I'd never heard of a trigger pull limit. Unbelievable. I guess that 10.5 lb. trigger pull is supposed to improve safety? Not 10.25 lb., not 10.75 lb., but 10.5 security-assured pounds. If that's the logic why not legislate sight height so all firearms aim a little low? Wouldn't that be safer? How about legislating ft.-lbs. of recoil? Wouldn't that make follow up shots safer? Of course we could go on and on thinking up stupid rules, but ...... wouldn't that make us legislators? Sorry for that cynicism. Dear Lord I apologize for that one there and be with all the starving pygmies down there in New Guinea.

My understanding is that a FFL dealer in MA cannot transfer ownership of any "non compliant" gun. This means 10 lb DA pull and 10 round mags. It also means post ban glocks etc... Dealers will transfer guns with modified triggers, I've found, but there is no way they will let a magazine with more than 10 round capacity out the door for any M&P.

Glad you got a 40c in mass without 10lb must of slipped through cracks, both my shields say 10.5 lbs trigger on box and both now have apex carry kits in them. I love Ma. too born and raised here on cape, but very frustrated that the people in mass keep voting the libs in I vote in every election and never voted for a lib.but i guess you just can't fix stupid.

I should have said, "under the current regime here in the Kommonwealth (sic) most dealers will not knowingly transfer a gun with mags in the box capable of holding more than 10 rounds nor a new gun with a DA trigger pull less then 10 lbs"

We miss out on a lot of really high quality firearms here because many manufacturers feel it is not worth the hassle or expense to submit their firearms for testing. As was mentioned earlier, no (or very few SKUs) new handguns from Wilson, Wesson, Kimber, Glock, Colt, well, you get the point.

+1 on the APEX stuff. I have done the Burwell (with credit where credit is due) type trigger work or installed APEX parts in over 20 M&P's by now. The APEX parts are top quality and yield consistently good results.
