My dad, being from a Kentucky dirt farm, was very cavalier about snakes. He knew which ones were a threat and usually let them go about their business. He said it was usually him trespassing on their turf not 'tuther way around.

I never could achieve the calmness around snakes that he did.

I just assumed that my bladder was defective.

My Dad Hated Snakes
Our house was on abandoned NE Farmland with a well the had gone dry
there was a Nest of Snakes in that well near our burn barrel
One day dad poured some gasoline down the well and threw in a match

The Gas filtered and misted into the Underground Nooks and Crannies
(Yup a Fuel Air Mixture)
The Resulting "Explosion" threw Dad several feet and scorched his eyebrows

The Grass refused to grow in a large circle for 25 years over that very spot

Sorry for the Hijack

I use to shoot every snake I saw. The last 10 yrs or so I leave
them alone. There used to be a water snake under every flat
rock in the creek. Turtles both Snappers and Leather Backs were
thick. In the Spring the Bull frogs could be herd for miles. There
is something going on in this region that has thinned these way
down. So I cut all these critters a lot of slack to give them a chance to make a come back. There are other areas that are
having the same decline in reptile and amph. populations and
they don't know the cause yet.

It's not the snakes you have to watch out for, but those flying roaches!

I was staying in a dorm down in Texas last fall and one walked across the hallway at night. It cast a shadow and turned to look at me. No thanks!!!!!

Bet the snakes didn't come back either!

1984

Every one of us has a weak spot. It's all good unless it's between the ears.

Remember in the novel '1984' for Winston Smith, it was RATS. So they put his head in a cage full of them. If somebody gave me a gun under those circumstances I'd probably blow my own head off in trying get the away from me. Makes a rather comical picture if you think about it.:D

That glove is a bullet proof body armor.
If I see a snake and I can get a gun quick enough it will be a dead snake.
Once I bent over to pick up a small tree branch and after I picked it up it started moving. Holy cripe it was a snake. The snake went flying.

I walked out of my trailer last night about 8:30 and looked out in front of the trailer on the rig location and thought I saw about a 2 foot piece of sash cord laying on the ground. Then, the darned sash cord started moving! Yes, it was a small diamondback rattlesnake. We made a good snake out of him too. :D The darned thing was crossing from the brush across a 200 foot cleared caliche pad the rig and everything is set up on and was heading for the rig substructure. That would have been so gnarly to have 1 of the rig hands going under the substructure cleaning and running into him. Anyway, he ain't going to the substructure any more and he won't bother anyone either. :D

At my house in LA we don't have diamondbacks. We have a few cane rattlers and ground rattlers though. And plenty of cottonmouths and copperheads.
