The first new car I ever owned was a 1973 Mercury Comet with a 200 CID 6-banger and three on the tree. Paid $3,600 for it. Great little car. :D
Four years later I traded it in and got $3200 for it. ;)

'57 Chev had the gas fill behind the drivers side tail light assemble. Sometimes the opening lever would freeze...Made fueling interesting..

VW - Windshield washer fluid powered by the air in the spare...

50's model pickup trucks - Fuel tank in the cab behind the seat...

Jeep - Fuel tank under drivers seat...

Some oldsters had a lever above the windshield to operate the wipers...

Chrysler(?) with 3 on the tree and auto shift...

Pushbutton transmissions...

What turn signals? Seem to be replicated on many of today's autos...

Inside door handles? When did that happen?

I had a friend who was a big MG fans and restorer. His used to joke that the British didn't build refrigerators because they couldn't make them leak oil. :)

Had a '68 MGBGT. Every month something went wrong. One week on the road, 3 weeks on jack stands. I could probably rebuild the generator in my sleep even today. Was driving down the road one day and the hood decided to become my windshield. My speedo stopped working. A month later it spun out of control, then started working again...

It's not a car, it's an Adventure!

We had a group of MG'ers in HS.
We could do an engine swap in the MGA in about 30 minutes, assuming the engine was cold. The dual SU Carburetors were a good learning tool on what a carb should do.
Someone managed to get a Chevy small block, transmission and rear end in one of the A's but couldn't keep the driveshaft in tact for some reason, the hood looked like it wasn't fastened properly . It was a one person car - no leg room.
My favorite was the Magnette, 4 doors, back seats and a trunk.

Ahhh, Lucas electrics, or rather - "the Prince of Darkness....."

Someone mentioned SU carburetors, my first car was a 444 Volvo, it had SU carburetors, I had to stop regularly to rinse the sand out of the glass bowls, not sure if it was the quality (or lack of) of the gas, or if there was sediment in the tank, either way it was just dandy on a date.... not.
