I went to a little gunshow today to take a quick look around before close and found this 17-2 at a price I couldn't pass on.

When I saw it I thought the side plate markings looked "thin" and it has a noticeable purple colored cylinder. But the gun locked up well with no push-off and no peening of the cylinder face. Barrel is bright with no bluges or rings. It just looked to good to pass on at $400, so I didn't.

So what do you think, is it a reblue?

K 60xxxx serial number puts it at 1964 or 5. I have other K-22's from this timeframe and when I compare finishes this one doesn't look the same.

This could be the first reblued revolver I've bought and not been unhappy about! :D

It looks like it but it's still worth the money. You saw me lay down 4 bills at Dec NGD for a k22 combat masterpiece with a homemade patridge sight. I'm not offended by well used guns and I'm glad you finally bought a gun that is bad enough to shoot. :D

I think it cleaned up rather well! Should make a very good shooter!

Well done!!

At least the sideplate and cylinder look refinished, but if it works well you won't notice when shooting it :) .

I think it is probably a reblued revolver but at the price who cares and it looks great. The plum color doesn't mean it's a reblue as S&W had some bluing problems and many forum members have bought revolvers with that color on them and especially the cylinders. I think it's been reblued because of the light stamping on the side plate and USA markings.

I just bought a reblued Model 17-3 for $400 with pitting on the frame and cylinder that was reblued over. The gun has a great bore and tight lockup and excellent timing and was probably left in a holster for a long time. I bought it to sell to Brenda's Grandson who is 21 and wants a great 22 revolver to hone his shooting skills.

Yours I would keep as a shooter for myself in a heartbeat.
