Looking for info on the Mod 4056, product code 104440,

I've not seen many, actually only one - mine, and was wondering if anyone has one and/or has been able to get a fix on the quantity made?

This model was not shown in either the first or second standalone TSW flyers, the only place (other than SCSW3) I've found it was in the 1997 annual catalog.

Probably not a significant number made, as a compact, all steel version for carry purposes was less likely to get used versus the alloy framed models.

Frankly I find it to be "just right", the weight isn't a bother, the DAO is preferred for carry purposes, no extraneous levers hanging from the slide, etc.,

here's a pic, shown here before.

Good find! I really like mine, more than I thought I would a DAO pistol. It has a really sweet trigger pull that seems to agree with me (as does my 4586's). :D

That's the pre-rail version made in 1997 only. ~1100 is what's reported to have been made. Unlike the 4053TSW, which had a pre-rail & a railed version made, the 4056TSW did not have a railed version, only the pre-rail.

Let us know how it shoots! :)

Mine shipped in Feb 1997, not sure where it sat for nearly 2 years, as I purchased it new in Nov of 1998. Like many of my DAO Smiths, I shot it a bit when I first got it, and have carried it some from time to time, but not extensively. Again, like all my DAO Smiths I find them to shoot very well, the triggers are fantastic, smooth and crisp, the short stroke is just right. Due to my stable of DAO models, none of them have been shot extensively, with the exception to my pair of M4586's that is.

Thanks for the estimate of the quantity made...

Nice guns you have :)

Add MSE1821 to your list, makes sense that it is later in the list since it takes longer to get good guns to the Pacific NW... :)

S&W Model 4056 TSW

View attachment 456495View attachment 456175I purchased a 4056 TSW several years ago and carry it frequently. I found that a Turkish company named KSD makes hardwood grips in a variety of styles; however, I purchased a set of rosewood grips that replicates the logo and checkering of the factory plastic grips. An outstanding addition to a rugged and reliable sidearm.

The holster is a custom build by James Ervin Nelson at Nelson Holsters in Lenoir, NC. James can be contacted by phone at (828) 729-3415 or at [email protected] .

Welcome to the forum!

It is rugged & the only all steel compact 40 S&W made.

Which S&W model's mold did you have James use for your 4056TSW holster?

His website only lists a few 3rd Gen models & the 4056TSW is not one of them.

I had him make up a couple for my 4040PD but my 3914, 3914DAO & 3913TSW fit in them nicely as well.

My pre-rail 4013TSW & 4056TSW are a tighter fit.

James actually borrowed one of his son's pistols instead of using a mold. Judging by the indentation for a manual safety I would assume that he used either a model 4013 TSW or it's 9mm sibling (neither the 4053 TSW or the 4056 TSW has a manual safety).

Those grips do looks nice. Who made them?

I have one of these. Feel free to add it to your inventory of serial numbers.

Nice gun. Excellent "short" DAO trigger.

As others have said, the all-steel construction soaks up the recoil of the .40S&W round nicely.

I've never carried the gun but might if I had a suitable holster.

The grips were made by KSD, a Turkish company, and purchased on eBay from a vendor in Florida.

On the holster issue several companies list the 4013 TSW on their gun lists (hardly anyone lists the 4053 TSW or 4056 TSW), Fist and MTR for example, but occasionally a couple of vendors on eBay sell "new" old stock Don Hume holsters made for 3rd Gen S&W pistols. They are products made about 20 years ago that have never been out of the package. I have a DH paddle holster for the 4056 TSW that isn't even in their catalogue anymore; it has a leather paddle with what I assume to be a plastic piece inside for rigidity, a thumb break strap, and a strap and snap that goes around the belt to prevent pulling the holster out of your trousers (like a Kramer paddle holster).
