Went to my LGS today to transfer a rifle to a friend and ended up purchasing a real nice 1960 Model 51 (22 Mag) Kit Gun. Sorry to say that the pictures really don't do it justice, probably because I took them with my phone.

A bit of added info: If I check the SN in the 4th ed. of the catalog, it comes up as 1959 however, this model wasn't introduced until 1960. I suspect it was manufactured in 59 and shipped in 60 when the model was introduced.

Sweet! Nothing wrong with that.

First year production. Is there a round butt under those target grips? Rd butts are rare with only about 600 made.

No, it's square, wish it was round. But then it might have cost me twice as much!

Very nice find and purchase. They are not cmmon stocks either. Most I have seen, post diamond center, are smooth.
Not original of course if yours is from 1960. Then again it's very hard to find a pawn shop gem with the original stocks. It's possible not common. Again very nice.

I added this to my original thread but you may not have noticed, yes, it shipped in 1960 when that model was introduced but when I checked the serial number sequence in the 4th ed. of the catalog, it came up 1959. I suspect it was manufactured in 59 and shipped in 60 when the model was introduced.

Ed,

You're exactly right, the book dates are ~ manufacture year, and dates in letters are exact shipping day.

I like the little Kit Guns. My model 63 has walked many a mile with me.
