This a pistol that I picked up with a few others a while back and just got around to giving it a real cleaning, and disccovered that one of the extractor guide pins is missing (just the emty hole). Brownells do not list this item, do I need to go directly to the factory? I assume that these are press fit? I've never had this problem come up before. Any info will be appreciated.

They can be replaced with music wire. I don't have one handy to measure, but there is a standard size of music wire that is very close. Simply cut off a piece the right length, polish one end to a ball and insert the other end in the cleaned hole in the cylinder with a tiny dab of Loctite ( red). Set the extractor in place to hold everything in line and let set up overnight. Music wire is available in hobby shops in 36" lengths.

Thanks WOB, I was looking through all my spring wire and nothing quit small enough, will take a look at that music wire idea. Are there any spec's on the depth of the hole or a suggestion as to where one would look. The bench book that I have on S&W revolvers only reference to such a problem is to replace with no other info.

Thanks Again

I have lots of music wire in different dias". Need the dia and I can send a few inches out to you. I use alot of it in my radio control aircraft.

No specs needed, just put the wire in the hole and mark it at the face of the extractor to determine the length.

I believe that the guide pin diameter is .005. Maybe S&W can confirm.

Measured one on a Model 66, should be 0.0565".

Took a quick measure at .055, if you do happen to have a piece please advise.

TO ALL RESPONDERS A BIG THANK YOU FOR THE HELP.
Secondly let me correct myself regarding the measurment of the pin in question, it is .056 now that I've taken alittle time to do it properly.

I have some .055. Check your private messages on this forum.

Got some .062 which should work like this: Music wire has a rough surface to begin with. You'd want it polished smooth and if you polish .055, it will fit loose in the hole. Take about 1/2" .062 and chuck it in a high speed drill. Buff it down & smooth to the correct dia with fine emery and steel wool. It will take a nice shiny cold blue or leave it untouched for a stainless revolver. You can make it so it will fit snug and be a tap fit. Done this before with perfect results.
Let me know if you or anyone else wants some.
