I found a good condition model 13 , Pinned /recessed with what appear to be original grips. Shows some cylinder turn line and muzzle wear, very light rust.
They want $295 for it . I appreciate any help I just can't decide on this one.

Hey ST - probably a fair price for a 4" and a good price if it's a 3" since the 3 inchers seem to bring ~$100 more. PEN

Agree with Pen and Mike.

I just bought one for $265 ($280 OTD). She was rode hard and put up wet but she locks up tight and does she ever shoot. I don't know how I got along without one all these years. I have had the 4-inch variety but this 3-inch is something special. I would certainly buy it at that price and I think you will be really pleased if you do. I paid a little less for mine but it sounds as if yours is in better overall condition.

Appears to be at least 4" maybe 5" I will check.
Thanks for the help.

Very good price. Buy it and don't look back. I have 4.

That's a decent price for a Model 13 in good shape. I have two Model 13s and they're very fine shooters. The only thing you want to avoid is firing the high-velocity light (under 140gr) magnum loads in this model. It can cause damage to the forcing cone. Stick with the milder magnum loads or heavier bullets and they'll last a lifetime.

I shoot 38 and 38+P through mine most of the time, but keep 'em loaded with 158gr magnum loads for home defense.

125 grain .357s in easy moderation won't hurt the 13 or 65.

That is what I roll with. I burn up about a cylinder's worth every couple of months or so just to remember the recoil.

However, 95% of my shooting is heavy 158 grain 38 Special handloads.

I just posted a ? about my 13-3 3". I like mine better cause it's more compact. But look what you got here! A model 10, basically, but in 357. And your's is recessed, I think. Great gun.

Any Smith for less than three bills is a bargain in this area these days. Don't matter if it's a four or three inch, buy it. I love my three inch one.

I guess it depends on what you consider "very light rust".

On the whole gun? Just a couple specks here and there?

That would make the difference to me as to whether it was worth it or not.

My 13-1 was bought with a few rust specks on it...but you need to look close.

Doesn't bother me for what I paid though.

It's a shooter.

My first handgun purchase was a 4" Model 13 in 1977. I constantly regret selling it.

I just bought a (quite rare in this area) 3" satin nickel RB Model 13-3 (not pinned or recessed) for $300. That's a very good deal around here. It was from a lot of confiscated guns a local shop picked up. There were some very good deals (for retail) and some not too nice guns in the group. A very mixed bag.

I saw a 4" Model 13 with Maryland State Police markings on consignment at a shop on Friday for $565. It seems tight but has some holster wear. I think the price is a bit high, but, if I had the money I'd probably make them an offer. I'm sure the MSP markings bring a premium, I just don't know how much of one.

Personally, I'd jump on a P&R model 13 for $295 (3" or 4") without a second thought.

That's a good price. I paid just over $400 for my 4" last year w/ box. The 13 is a great shooter.
