Model 15-2 added to my collection!

I stopped by my LGS scouting classic S&W revolvers. This guy just recently sold me a nickel plated S&W model 19-4 for $325. after just taking it in on trade a few hours earlier. It looked pretty bad with pieces of leather stuck to the barrel from 30 years of holster storage, but literally cleaned up to like new.

He now had a couple of Model 10's in decent shape, but was asking $599. for each. (Similar to what Buds is selling for $319.) I left feeling a bit disappointed and decided to stop by a pawn shop that I knew sold a few guns, but was always charging way too much.

The pawn shop had a Taurus 85 with a price of $269. and sitting right next to it was this S&W model 15-2 with a price of $279.(!!!) The guy behind the counter said "everyone wants autos" and he had reduced the price twice already on the S&W because "revolvers don't sell".(?)

The serial number is K6007xx which I believe puts it at about 1964. It does not appear to have been fired much with a rock solid lock-up and only very minor wear on the barrel tip. The bore is nearly perfect and the action is as smooth as butter.

2 great S&W deals in as many months!

Needless to say, this pawn shop will now be a regular stop when making my gun shopping rounds. Everybody knows that no one wants old revolvers, so I will do my best to help him out whenever I can.

Good move on getting that 15. I bought one back in the mid 70s just so I could have a snub nose with adjustable sights for PPC shooting. Wanted a 19 2 1/2 but they were impossible to find back then.

I used a much modded model 28 6'' for the main matchs and the 15 2'' for the "off duty" class. Great gun, a bit bulky but still a great gun. I did use it as a CCW for a while as it was very accurate and reliable.

I love my 15-4 2inch. Enjoy yours. m15 is a fine gun. Mine has some of the best blueing I've seen it's 1979 vintage pinned

Not a -2 but a -3 and I am about to send off for a factory letter. 15Kxxxx is her number (Vintage 1977) and though she may not be the prettiest, she functions the way God intended.

Much like yourself my feelings are there is no finer .38's than a M15. I finally snagged a long awaited 15-2 2" to go with my
other 4" M15's. I picked it up on GB during the weekday midday when no one was looking for under $500. It doesn't have the blue black finish that is so often the trademark of a lot of the M15's have but I still feel very lucky to have found it without the usual bidding frenzy that typically accompany the sales. Congratulations, yours is a real looker.

My only issue now is finding a nice set of original grips to replace the Pachmayr's it came with. I like the look and feel of the S&W target grips (I borrowed my model 19's for a test fit), but I'm leaning more towards the standard, smaller grip to maintain the vintage originality. Based on the serial number dating to 1964, I believe the correct grip for this period has the Diamond Escutcheon.

I found a few on ebay, but they are hard to find in nice shape without spending a small fortune. I was hit with a bit of sticker shock when I saw what original S&W grips are selling for these days. A few sellers are asking more than I paid for the gun!

Very nice 15-2 !

Correct style Diamond Magnas will have a tapered shoulder and flat heel like the ones pictured below.
