Model 15-3 2 inch with serrated .312 trigger.

Depends on where you look...Right now in a Cabela's in Minnesota, there is a 2" nickeled 15-4, but when you said "reasonable" you probably didn't have in mind the $900 they're asking...:o...Ben

Unfortunately the "nickeled" also knocks it out of contention. Have had a few problems with nickel finishes going bad.

Triggers wider than .265" are flared on the sides to fit in the frame.

A few milestone dates regarding grooved triggers:

• Serrated trigger change order March 18, 1929 by F. H. Wesson on all .32-20, .38, and.44 Hand Ejectors, .265" wide. Change trigger pull on all HE Models to 3 ½-5 ½ lbs ordered May 1, 1929. So in 1931 I believe the K22 began life with serrated triggers.

• 1955 - Target trigger N (.500") grooved introduced early 1955 until between 1980-99. Much later than 1955 the .400" grooved and smooth target was introduced. The .320" smooth combat trigger became standard ~1986 and all optional target triggers dropped soon after.

1986 - New smooth forged combat trigger became standard: .312" J, .312" - .320" K, L & N, including MIM triggers, and in 2003 MIM .340" X frame trigger.

The only optional .312: grooved trigger was for the J frame. I've never seen or been able to confirm a factory smooth let alone grooved .312" combat trigger before 1986 for a K frame.

Snw19, Muley, and Hondo have given you the right answer. Your trigger is .265 rather than .312, and there's nothing uncommon about it.
But, you started a good conversation and made the experts put their thinking caps on.....I enjoyed reading it.

The OP post got me looking in the 4th SCS&W regarding Model 15's. I have a 15-3 4".

Under variations on page 212 it states 20% premium for factory nickel and 20% premium for 2" barrel.

One more for the crowd. My 15-3 is serated.

Always wanted a 2" model 15.
Never found one locally. Never found one online that wasn't highway robbery or a bidding war.

Premium X 2 for mine. The crazy thing about it is I once sold it, w/regrets, and a year or so later the guy came in with it for sale. I got it back and with me it stays!! And no, the diamond center magnas are not original, but they do look cool.

Just so I'm clear on terminology ...
... is "Grooved" and " Serrated" the same thing ?

I think know what "smooth " is ... like a babies bottom ...no grooves or lines or checkering ...right ?
Still learning,
Gary

Grooved and serrated are the same. Just like the grooved backstrap on higher-end S&W revolvers.
Smooth is self-explanatory, no? :D
