Model 36... What to do!!

I picked up a nice Model 36, 2" barrel from an older fella at my gun club. I didn't realize it when I originally looked at the gun the other day, but he had the box, original paperwork, and tools with the gun. I purchased the whole set up and he tossed in a beautiful OWB as well. He purchased the gun from a local gun shop in 1977 (his copy of original paperwork was in the box), this gun is probably rated at 95%. My dilemma is do I shoot this sucker or not? I hate to have guns I don't shoot, but if this really needs to be a safe queen I guess it will have to be.
Oh, yea... He asked $275 for the whole set-up, then told me he would toss in the holster. I gave him what he was asking, didn't want to take advantage of him.
Soooo would ya' shoot it or not??

shoot it. clean it. oil it. dont put it in a holster, it will cause wear marks and eventually rust if used for extended storage(assuming its leather). but shooting it wont cause any damage if youre careful how you put it down and pick it up etc.

If it is a 95% gun, shoot it. That won't hurt it if you keep it clean and care for it. If it were a 99% gun, my advice might be different.

Sure I'd shoot it. It's not unfired, if it was then you'd have a decision to make. Don't even hesitate!!

shoot it you will find it's a lot of fun. If you shoot it you will get to clean it and as with all revolvers that can also be fun.

Did you buy a paper weight, no you purchased a tool, for a great price use it,enjoy it and take care of it.
Look at this way say it was mint, on a good day with the correct buyer you might get $450. for that gun, maybe. You paid $275.
for one in 95% condition, I paid $325. for one in about the same condition.If you shoot the heck out of it,but take good care of the pistol and sell it in say 5 years time you will probably get $350. what have you lost?

Thanks to everyone for the advice! Like I said, I prefer to shoot my guns as opposed to shelving them. I wll take it to the range later today and see how she shoots!

Incidentally I also picked up a Model 10-5 a few weeks back as well (haven't had time to get this one out either). This one has a serial number from 1966, it's in really nice shape for it's age with great grips and a little bluing wear from the holster at the end of the barrel.
I will post pictures of both later on.

Here's the 36 in 95% or higher condition that I picked up last week. Mine was $359 without the stuff.

I am going to shoot the heck out of mine.

The only safe queen I ever bought was a Colt DS 3" - got it home, cleaned it, and realized I was making it dirtier and that it had zero turn line. Sooooo, I traded it for a near-mint S&W that I could shoot (while allowing somebody else to fill out their collection of Colts).

Your 10-5 appears to have a 5" barrel, or is it 6". Very nice!

A 95% gun is not pristine.

A Model 36 from 1977 is not rare or unique.

When someone asks "Should I shoot this?" my answer 99% of the time is yes.

And, why are you asking strangers what you should do with your gun?
