Model 39 Steel Frame, with extras

Here is my unfired NIB steel frame Model 39 serial range 60XXX (second most common batch), with military magazine(s), dust cover, and a pair of hand select Goncalo Alves checkered grips (from the 1970's) which help bring out the nice bright blue finish of the steel frame. Please excuse my poor Kodak digital picture.

OK everybody, I'm going to have to confess that I do not know what the "dust cover" is, and where does it go on the pistol?

The dust cover attaches to the frame and then goes over the slide. It covers the ejection port as long as the slide is forward with the intention of keeping it clean and clear. Adds some serious collector value to an M39 to have one.

That is a very nice steel Mod 39 with the hard to find dust cover and military style magazine. That would be a great addition to any 39 collection, but it is good to see it is with someone who appreciates it.

I'm inerested in 39s and until recently I was unaware of the 'military magazines'. Can someone fill me in on the history of these things?

Model 39 Military magazines.

These magazines were developed for fast sight recognition of rounds left, or to see if you magazine is fully loaded, when trying to see through the holes may not be the fastest/best way during combat situations. You will notice in the two custom Model 39s I have, that both ASP and DVEL pistols used this design in their magazines going a step further by using cartidge counter windows in both sides of the grip panels for round count without magazine removal. ** Note**You can see the military magazines pictured on some of the Model 39 manuals.

Very, very nice! Original dust covers are about as rare as Martian sightings in these parts. About the only thing that could add value to that M39 would be a factory nickel finish if they were ever applied to the steel frame models.
