I have a newer performance center model 41 with two intermittent problems that may be related. 1) sometimes I pull the trigger and it doesn't fire, I push the magazine in harder and it will fire. 2) sometimes I pull the trigger, hear the firing pin drop, but doesn't fire and there is no mark on the case rim. Are these related? Is there an easy thing to look at without sending it in for warranty repair?

Most likely the safety screw is loose. Take off grips and tighten, if needed , the slotted screw that holds the safety in place. My was loose and had the same problems. Tighten safety and problem solved.

As I recall, the model 41 has a magazine disconnect and it may be related to the trigger bar. The trigger bar runs along the side of the pistol, under the grip, for the pistol to fire, the trigger bar has to engage the sear. You may want to have a look to see if that may have something to do with your problem. I imagine that you could take the grips off, find the trigger bar, insert a magazine and check the sear engagement, with and without the magazine.

Did op get gun fixed ? What was problem. Did my suggestion work on his gun?

Thank you both for your replies, sorry I didn't reply sooner. I checked the safety screw, it was tight and the safety isn't loose. I also believe it may have something to do with the mag disconnect because sometimes when it doesn't fire, if I drop the mag and click it back firmly, it may fire. I think there may be multiple things going on here, so I got a repair tag from smith, haven't mailed it yet. I bought it new about two years ago for $$$$, it has been intermittent the whole time, only fired maybe 200 rounds total. I also bought the 7" standard model, test fired it once, seems ok…. Should I send the magazines back with it for diagnostic purposes?

I would send mags back. At least it is under warranty and they will fix it. My performance center 41 is incredibly accurate at 25 yards off a rest . Once it is dialed in ,it should run fine . Mine was 100 percent yesterday even with cheap remington thunder bolt ammo. I wish your was a simple fix as mine was. It had very similar symptoms. I have a number of 22 automatics and ,once in a blue moon, any of them will jam. It is usually ammo or magazine problems.

My older M41 was having failure to fire episodes. It's had 3 episodes since I've started using it in 2gun shoots. Was running fine until it wasn't. After a good cleaning and some oil it would run fine but a match later it acted up again. I eventually removed the entire magazine safety and haven't had any other episodes. In two weeks I shoot another 2gun. I put over 50 rounds through it Saturday at a Steel Challenge with no problems except a misfeed on the last round in a mag but I was using a different barrel than the one I had been using for the 2gun.

Check the Allen Screw over travel setting behind the trigger. It might be sticking out just a tad too far.

I got it back from s&w with just a 4 week turn around. They said they replaced the trigger bar. Haven't tried it yet, fingers crossed…
