I had a side X side comparison shoot this morning between my High Standard Victor and my Smith & Wesson Model 41.

The targets are 2" swinging steel plates @ 25yds, with arm rest.

The results after 200 rounds was inconclusive and the test must be redone many times again. Both pistols performed flawlessly.

you should try them both on paper.
I shot a HS in college (70's)while the Ohio state team shot 41's.
both are exceptional.
if its a question on which to buy...
victor might be cheaper
41 mags still available-HS a little tougher.
right side slide release on HS has always been odd, but i LOVE high standards.
i see them at what seems reasonable prices these days(under $800)
fairly regularly and wich i could justify another one.
numrich has some SILE tgt grips for HS under $50
good luck either way
larry in Reno

I have both of these guns. My Victor is from the late 1970's and my Md 41 is from about 1970. I love both of these guns and cannot tell you that one is better than the other. But I can say that both are fine .22s that I'm very happy and proud to own. I was lucky very recently to find a factory mag. for my Victor at an estate auction for $25. I look forward to more reports from your tests.

I've shot these at paper many times...Today was just a play day.

These pistols are 1978 & 1979 respectively.

That was a super find on the H.S. magazine. I NEVER get good deals on any thing. LOL.

I'm retired and shoot at home almost every day, so I have to do little things like this to keep it interesting.

Tried them both, the Victor felt better, pointed more naturally for me.

Mine is a mere schmere Citation, but I really like it.
About 30% finish, but with scope and iron sight barrels, it is very accurate and comfortable to my 1911 molded hands.
Magazines are the hangup, I paid an extortionate amount for three extra Texas magazines so I could shoot a stage of Steel Challenge without reloading.

My M41 is prettier and you can still get magazines without too much fuss. But the grip is a bit straight.

I collect S&W 41s, 46s, 41-1s, and 52s and started Bullseye with a 41. Later tried a HS Victor and was using a military built 1911 for midrange and 45. Victor grip gave me better control over 41. Then picked up a 1911 with Kart upper and settled there. I do prefer my little S&W 46 5" electroless nickel for field carry. All are winners in my book.

I have a new old stock with spare parts and 2 mags.:D

I have fairly large hands and I always felt that the High Standard military grip frame is more comfortable than that of the model 41. Also, even though the trigger on my model 41 is very nice, I always felt that the High Standard trigger was nicer. However, both are very nice pistols and either is a pleasure to own and shoot.

Can't say about a Victor but I did have an East Hartford, Citation before getting a Mod 41. I prefer the 41 myself.
Also, in my opinion, with the Mod 41 you don't need to worry about a cracked frame like you do with the Hi-Standard Military frames

I owned a 41 but let it get away from me years ago and still would like to get another. I current have a High Standard (Hamden) 107 Citation that is excellent condition that I am very satisfied with. While not a Victor, it does share the same great trigger that the military H.S pistols are known for and shoots very well. Although factory magazines can be difficult to find I am fortunate to have 3. Cracked frames are only a problem is you shoot anything over standard velocity (1080 FPS) ammo.

I'm also a fan of the Victor.

I did this same comparison back in the 80's. Each gun has it's plus and minus. The trigger on the HS Victor sold me. I owned that Victor from 1983 until last month, 36 years.

Most of my medical tests I do NoT like the answers I get from My Dr's what do you mean I cannot live forever?

I don't own a Victor, but I do have several 41s and a couple of Supermatic Citations. I seem to be a little more accurate with the 41s, but I wouldn't sell or trade any of them.

I've never owned a Victor but I did own a Supermatic Trophy Military 107. What a shooter. However, I was an even bigger S&W 41 fan way back then (late 60s - early 70s) and I still am.

I own a Citation with two fluted, 7 1/2" barrels.
I recently obtained an LSP picatinny rail for the gun. I need to decide whether to mount it on one of the long barrels or obtain a shorter bull barrel to mount it on.

Back in 1978 - 1979 I spent weeks and weeks going back and forth debating what I should buy for a .22 Target Pistol. The two choices were the Hi Std. vs the M41. Long story short is I was leaning towards the Hi Std. because I felt it had a better trigger and was ever so slightly more accurate.

The DEAL BREAKER for me was the fact that the HS has the Slide Release on the right side of the gun and since I am right handed that was very awkward for me. The fact that the Mag. Release was on the bottom of the Pistol was the straw that broke the Camel's back (for me) and so I bough the M41.

I have had my M41 since 1979 and it has performed admirably for all those 40 years. I can shoot sub 1" 10 shot groups at 50 feet on most days and unless there is a faulty round, my M41 never has any malfunctions of its own. The only parts I replaced are the Extractor (used a Volquartsen forged part ) and I did but a new Sporter lightweight "Field Barrel" for it a few years back.

From time to time I shoot friends High Std. Pistols (and shoot them well) but I could just never get over the bottom mounted Mag Release and the Slide Release locations. Therefore, I do prefer the M41 - but if others are not bothered by the control locations like me, the HS is a superb (and maybe..... even a better) Pistol!
