Just an FYI, I don't know if this has addressed before, but I read on another forum that Triple K Products was developing a replacement magazine for S&W Model 52's. I sent an email to Triple K to verify this information and they responded that these magazines are in development and should be available soon. The key word there is "soon". No date was given to me, nor was any price mentioned.

So if you are wanting magazines for your Model 52 you may want to contact Triple K and get on their list for these.

Wow, this is big news and conflicting news too. If this were Mec-Gar, there would be parties in the street all over.

Triple-K is better than Pro Mag, but they are neighbors.

Personally I'd seek out a genuine factory magazine. You still might be able to find a few online or at local gun shows.

I have limited experience with Triple K mag's - some were OK and some were horrible. When I bought some for old Colt 1903's and 1908's I had limited and varying success with them. I returned the ones that did not work, and sold the ones that did after finding a few two-tone original Colt mag's. They were of course much more expensive, but they do work flawlessly.

If all you want to do is use them on he Range (the M52 is not a carry gun anyway), I guess you could give them a shot. Who knows, maybe they have improved their quality.

I purchased a few Triple K mags for the family Winchester 320 22LR, and they work fine. I'd suspect single stack ones are a relatively safe bet.

All valid points of course when it comes to the debate of factory original versus newly made "compatible" aftermarket.

Thing is that the market for factory original S&W 52 magazines is complete and total lunacy.

So it's not like someone would hem & haw about saving nine dollars by using aftermarket versus ordering a factory original. 52 magazines these days are triple digits and scarce.

If this news is true and Triple-K releases 52 magazines, I will absolutely purchase one and I will run 500 rounds through it before I decide if I'm buying more of them.

Dream scenario: Mec-Gar sees Triple-K actually market these and pulls their head out of their exhaust pipe and tunes up to make them, and they would almost surely be better than Triple-K.

I have worked with Triple K as a Alpha Tester for years. Most recently the Steyr GB magazine

I have been mostly pleased with the quality, especially for impossible to find magazines like the 9MM or 38SUPER P220 mags

We have been talking about Model 52 mags for probably 10 years. Do not hold your breath

They are slow, but they eventually get there

I bought a few S&W model 52 mags earlier this year. Brand new in S&W packaging. Can't remember where I bought them, but I'd check online.

It's not so much a matter of finding M52 magazines as what you will pay for said magazines. And that issue has been going on for far longer than a decade. For a while I was buying any M52 magazine I saw for $75.00 or less until I built up a stock so to speak. When I saw prices going north of $100.00 for them I stopped buying. The rip-off artists took over in that regard and I won't feed that bear.

Over the years many attempts were made at getting after market magazine manufacturers interested in making replacement mags for the M52, but these attempts never came to fruition. The M52 magazine isn't like a typical magazine and requires a bit of finesse to make and have it work acceptably. Would I like to hear Mec-gar was coming out with a M52 replacement? Absolutely, but they obviously don't want to take the plunge, which is fine, but tells me something about a company that makes mainly magazines. Why is Triple-K doing a M52 magazine and not Mec-gar? Hmmmm....

And most certainly S&W could have continued making magazines for this pistol if they wanted to, but they chose not to. Making magazines is not the same as making parts for these old pistols especially odd-ball magazines for the Model 52. From a personal standpoint I think S&W had an obligation to continue magazine production for the M52 as without a magazine the pistol is basically useless, but we see similar situations crop up all the time in the manufacturing world, not just with Smith and Wesson. Although "customer loyalty" is universally sought after by almost all manufacturers, it is a one way street. They only want your loyalty when it suits their needs, not the other way around. You see this a lot in the firearms world and I think we have come to expect this type of treatment.

Certainly someone at Smith and Wesson has seen where prices have gone on M52 magazines over the last 15 or 20 years and they could have re-introduced factory magazines for the M52. No doubt the price for a new factory magazine would have been much less than what the gougers want. Let's face it, S&W has built an entire market on re-introducing "old" revolvers, so why not magazines for the M52? Should be simple enough. I guess the desire to help the owners of these fine old pistols just isn't there anymore, if it ever was. But hey, we have this terrific M&P semi-auto pistol that's just as good as the old M52!

How many 52 magazines can a manf sell? There are very few m52s out there. Yes there would be a flurry of purchases when first released. Then it would burn out.
I would say market would go well at $65 to $75 @. The 3k mags average just south of that for popular obsolete firearms. The new computer world we live in was suppose to give us many more choices. That is BS that same computer is hooked to inventory. Computer say not enough of certain item sold to continue production, item dropped. Machinery tasked producing an item in demand, simple economics.
Everyone thinks their needs are mainstream, they ain't. If there is market
somebody will fill it when it becomes profitable. Hence all the little Ammo Companies. The days of catering to customers is gone from the major companies.

I'll agree that S&W is tone deaf these days however let's not make it sound like S&W quit offering 52 magazines at the same time they quit selling 52's. The very last Model 52-2 was made in 1993, so it would wildly out of character for *ANY* manufacturing company in nearly any endeavor to offer accessories for a model they haven't made in 30 years.

OEM Accessory magazines were built and offered well after 1993.

$100+ magazines are that way because a limited number of mags are relentlessly pursued by an even smaller number of users.

If an aftermarket supplier introduced a quality replacement, they couldn't sell theirs for anywhere near $100 and it would depress the market price of S&W mags, encouraging the aforementioned limited number of users to seek out original mags.

Thereby cutting their own (the aftermarket suppliers) throats.

They would be lucky to sell 300 magazines (if that many).

The suppliers know this.

We should, too.

I have two "pre 81" browning BLR rifles. Same issue, magazines were obsolete and expensive if you found them. Last I saw on eBay they were in the $300 range. Surfing Numrich a few months ago,,,,lo and behold,,, they had a reproduction for $86. Bought one. Fit and finish weren't as good as original but looks functional. Looked a few moments ago and now they are out of stock. It can happen.
