Model 58 marked "DUMMY" **SCROLL DOWN TO POST #38 FOR UPDATED PHOTOS**

That is very interesting ...but we have enough "dummies" and things that don't work around my house ... I don't need any more .

Saw something New today and that's awesome ...
Thanks for posting and post more when you get it in hand .

So, this a legit s&w example as it was from the factory? Seems like the term “DUMMY” is very amateur/diy.

I think it’s a cool find.
Collecting, for me, isn’t just about shooting.
It’s about the whole thing. The guns, the history, the accouterments
and anything to do with it.
Same reason you might order a S&W labeled mug to drink your coffee.

I agree, I have a tendency to grab items that relate to my hobbies and this one fit the bill.

Came across these a few years ago.....same deal, just like the fact they are stamped "S&W"

I've seen a "dummy" S&W revolver for sale on a website for probably 15 years.........could be this one.........years ago it was big money

I believe this might well be the one you’re referring to. I think it started off at a price well above $1000 when they first listed it.

I would imagine they’ve had offers in the past, but maybe they just got tired of sitting on it finally

Tom, I tried to find you some .41 Mag dummy rounds, but they only had them in .45 ACP...

Congrats on the revolver. Will be interested in learning more about it.

You can't win a game that you don't play a hand at. My hat's off to you for playing.

This thread is interesting. I had no idea that dummy materiel existed in those days. The items look close enough to the real thing, it make me wonder if they managed to creep into normal distribution at one time or another. It could be horrific to find dummy .45 ACP cartridges in your 1911 in a confrontation. At blue guns as used now are clearly dummies.

Received the "DUMMY" M58 today and it looks better in person than in the photos I previously posted.

Took the stocks off and there is no mainspring. There are a few numbers stamped on the left side of the grip frame and a very faint serial number stamped on the inside of the right stock panel.

Nothing has been ground off the backstrap, it is in perfect shape.
NO finish loss that I can see and obviously no turn ring on the cylinder.

The sideplate screws won't budge, my guess is they are epoxied in place.
Cylinder has a slight amount rotational movement only.

The hammer/trigger do not budge.

Pinned/recessed as you can see.

Very pleased with my purchase, will make a great conversation piece to say the least.

Now to find some S&W .41 Mag "DUMMY" rounds for the display.

Is the barrel rifled or is it obstructed? How about the cylinder bores? Are you thinking of querying Roy about this or lettering it (could you even?). So nicely finished, hardly think that would be necessary for training or holster making.

Yes, the barrel is rifled and it is NOT obstructed, the cylinder chambers are bored correctly and NOT obstructed.

I agree, the finish is fantastic and this one shows NO signs of wear/use that I can see.

Roy has seen many of these, but lettering without a serial number would be a challenge.....not sure if any of the numbers on the grip frame would be of use? I will have to ask Roy.
