Back in September I posted about a M58 that I had bought at a gun show, that had really ugly but superficial surface corrosion. Here's a link to the thread: http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-re...eous-acne-plus-m520-edit-m-58-pics-added.html
I sent it off to Smith & Wesson and got it back last week. Here are some before/after pics. Whaddayathink?

The gun itself cost me $475, refinishing was $190 and shipping was $35, for a total of $700. I doubt that I could've gotten one this nice-looking for that much, and now I can shoot it with impunity because it's "ruined" as a collector piece.

S&W does a great job for a reasonable price. Your pictures are certainly proof of that. I have an Outdoorsman that was refinished by S&W and it looks like new. I'm wondering what kind of markings they put on your revolver, to show that it was returned to the factory? My revolver has a diamond stamped under the crane and on on the butt, under the grip panel. I didn't send it to the factory, and don't know how to tell when it was send. Does anyone know if the type of stamp can be dated?

hi guys , what is the cost for a S&W re-finish ???
they did a beautifull job , on you model 58, robbt

Looks fantastic and they certainly did an excellent job.

I agree that S&W does a nice job on re-finishing guns sent in. They didn a nice job on the pitting on your gun.

I got a Mdl 57 that had a very nice and deep blue on the frame and cylinder, but the barrel looked like GMC metallic blue paint.

The gun came back looking brand new. I am very pleased with the result.

The "after" pictures certainly show a dramatic improvement. I think this is one instance where a re-blue is justified.

Is it just me, or is the trademark logo on the sideplate different on the re-finished gun? It looks like it's in a different location now.

Outstanding. You were very wise to let S&W do the work. A factory refinish is much better for future resale than any after market. Save your papers and documentation.

Good show.

Very nice work on a fantastic S&W! I remember your original post and cannot believe it came out that nice.

I have to replace mine. Everytime I see one like yours it drives me.

Congrats!

In a case like this.......I don't think the restoration would lower the value! That's a fine looking revolver, and well worth the cost of restoration. It doesn't bother me one bit, if they are done like that one!!! Of course.....I'm not a collecter. I don't think that S&W collecters would be interested in a refinished gun. But, you'll have to get the opinion of a collecter. Bob

+2 But I wouldn't care, they did a great job. That 58 looked hopeless, now it's a gem. A nice pair of PC Magna's would make it even better.

Without question, its value rose by more than the cost of the re-blue plus shipping. Its collector value was pretty much zilch anyways.
