Hey Gents,

I have a question regarding the trigger on my S&W Model 58 (serial # N2613xx). The trigger is .5" wide and smooth. It is the only wide smooth trigger I've personally seen on a S&W revolver. According to the Standard Catalog, the standard trigger on a Model 58 "should" be a narrow (.265") serrated trigger. So is the trigger on mine likely an aftermarket trigger or a special order item? Also, any opinions on the affect that the current wide trigger might have, if any, on the gun's resale value? I personally do not really like this trigger, so if I keep this gun I might have it replaced, but if it is considered "desirable" I would not want to mess with it.

Thanks for any opinions or advice.

Called the smooth target and sometimes the "Combat" trigger it was not available as an option on the 58 but may have been a special order. Far, far more likely the retail dealer installed it at customer request or a previous owner had it installed.

I like this trigger and I have put it on about 6 or 7 of my N frames.

It may have been a special order part, but the only ways to tell are having the original box (labeled) or a letter. A .500 smooth trigger is unusual, most I've seen were .400 or smaller.

I do have the box with the (presumably) original label (see pic) and it does not specify a special trigger, so I assume this must be an aftermarket trigger. I do prefer smooth triggers for double action work in general, but this wide one just feels awkward somehow.

Thats how a gun thats loved, carried and shot should look! It's loss of finish shows character IMO. Love seeing the safe/photo queens but there's something about a well used weapon that does something for me! It looks better than me and its 2 years older:).
