I searched for a Model 69 post & couldn't find one so I thought I would post. I have a Model 69 & have bought the S&W Hogue grips for it from S&W & they are nicer than originals (Softer rubber) but wondering if anyone has found any bigger palm swell grips for that model as the replacements I bought are still a little small for my hands. I also have wondered if anyone has converted some square frame grips to fit round frame (Like conversions) as I have some Pachmayr presentations & was toying with the idea of modifying them with strong glue/epoxy & seeing if they would work. Just curious. Appreciate any input! Here's a pic with the S&W Hogue grips made for the K/L frames (Round to square conversion) installed with the stock 69 grips & some Pachmayr Presentations for a K frame I have that I would like to modify to fit.

The nerve damage in the web of my shooting hand makes shooting larger RB Smith frames an ordeal. I have had no problem simply putting on the SB Pach grips on RB frames as the grip pin holds it in place securely.

The Model 500 grips that S&W sells would probably fit the bill for both of you. It's larger than the regular Hogue grips because it covers the grip frame back strap and it's a round to square butt conversion.

It has added recoil absorbing cushioning, and with arthritis creeping into my shooting hand, it's now "standard" equipment on my hard shooting round butt revolvers.... a 629 DX classic and M69.

This is the same grip that comes on the 500 Magnum, but it fits current round butt K-L-N Frames too.

Thanks for the recommendations! I will order the grip for the Model 500 as I didn't know it would fit. Wish I would have known before as I wouldn't have ordered the other S&W Hogue grips! Oh well hindsight is always 20/20. Thanks again to both of you for your input!

Just for FYI... when S&W standardized all grip frames to the round butt style, they made them all the same on the K-L-N-X frames, they are all K-frame size.

That's not quite 100% accurate. The N-frames are still larger than the others.

The reason why the X-frame grips (K-L-X size) fit the larger N-frames is that they're rubber, and there's a bit of stretch. Once they are used and 'fitted' to the N-frame, there is a noticeable gap if placed again on the smaller frames.

I love the 460/500 grips, as they fit larger mitts well. The M69 is one of the sweetest-shooting .44s in my modest collection, partially due to these Hogue grips.

I put some Pachmayr Diamond pro grips on my 69 a few weeks back. They have a little palm swell to them are real soft on the backstrap. They take a lot of the bite out of heavy magnum loads. They are not real pretty but they do work. Not sure about big hands though.

I found these moved my middle finger a bit too close to the trigger guard for comfortable shooting of Magnum loads, but liked the overall 'chunkiness' of the feel. They fit a bit like thicker combat grips.

The padding over the strap area is excellent, however, and should fit most medium/large-to-large hands well. I would bet many find they tame the recoil at least as well as the Hogue X-frame grips, possibly better.

My hands are on the small side but I had no trouble with fingers to close to the trigger guard. They are by no means a perfect grip but for me are keepers. They give adequate cushioning, fill my hand about right and look like they will take a lot of field abuse without problems.

S&W 500 grips

I bought the S&W 500 Hogue grips & they fit my hand very well. I like the extra cushion that covers the backstrap on my 69 & the palm swell is more than the S&W Hogue grips for the 69 I bought previously. A BIGG improvement over the stock hard rubber grips! Hope it helps someone from buying a grip that doesn't fit their hand well & making the same mistake I did! Thanks for all your inputs! :) Here's a pic of the 69 with the Model 500 grips on it.

Thanks for the input on modifying the Goncalo Alves grips as it would be easy to do what you suggested & I love some of the Goncalo Alves grips. With todays glues, I don't believe gluing some pieces in the square butt grips would be that hard & they would stand up to the recoil. I have a lot of small walnut & other hardwood pieces I'll have to play around with & make a template so I know where to glue the pieces at. Thanks for getting my creative juices flowing!

I made a set of K/L combat grips that fir my 69. I made a small piece of wood to fill the void. I also installed a K/L sb Hogue grips that are more comfortable to shoot. I killed the nerve in my right thumb years ago but before I had I couldn't fire 6 magnums out of my 2 1/2" 66 due to the pain. The 69 when loaded with magnums can be painful so you will have to see what you can tolerate.

Thanks for the FYI. I'm still a relatively new Smith & Wesson owner, and I'm mostly interested in the old school guns as I am that way with anything (TV shows, movies, music, cars, et cetera) so I haven't taken any time to learn about the new Smiths. That is an interesting fact I was completely unaware of. Learn something new every day. I don't care for most of the new Smiths, if any, but when compared to the older ones its hard to chose new over old. A couple have peaked my interest however lately. I am an absolute fan of magna grips, and I saw a 686 with magnas on it and it had I believe the shortest barrel option and it looked spectacular. Now armed with my new information, it will help better guide me in any future S&W purchases of today's models. Thanks again!

I'd bet a new Model 69 would look great with magnas, but since they aren't liked by so many people in favor of rubber/oversized grips it is hard to find pictures.

Groo here
If you wand a somewhat smaller grip the Pachmyer compact is "chunker"
but shorter.
Ps, the nice thing about Hogue is you can replace the single screw on the bottom with one that has a ring
allowing the use of a tether.

Compact Lasergrips

I ordered CT lasergrips and thought, 'hey, the compact ones would make for greater concealability. Then I actually shot the gun, and the accuracy was so great that I thought, 'hey, maybe, I don't need the laser after all.' But I went ahead and ordered it, but am thinking of switching to the extended grips. So, my question--do the compact grips affect the shooting at all? Accuracy?

500 grips here too
