Several months ago I found S & W Model 79 Co2 air pistol. I sat it aside and thought "I'll fix this someday". It will leak all the Co2 out of a cannister in about three minutes. Well, now I need to have my knee joints replaced, one at a time of course. Since I will be imobilized for quite a while I thought I would refurbish the #79 and use it for indoor target practice while my movement is limited. I am 70+ and have worked on guns for most of my life, however I have not figured out how to disassemble the #79. Replacing O-rings and seals does not seem like a major chore, if I can get to them without destroying the gun in the process. Anyone got any information on disassembling a Model 79?
Thanks in Advance for any/all help. Regards, Gunner12

Thanks a million guys. The advice permitted me to complete the disassembly without damaging the gun and also to find two sources for O-rings/seals (now on order). I was sure frustrated until I happened upon this site and got the info from all of you. Perhaps I can return the favor some day. Hope your Christmas was good and that your New Years is bright. S&W 79G no gas

Hi,

I change all ring seals everything is OK tench nothing leaks, but the gas does not happen again in the compression chamber.

I do not understand anything.

Do you know this problem?

Thank you for your answer.

Best regards.

Without actually seeing the gun it's impossible to diagnose a problem like this.

If the gun is assembled properly and holding Co2, but not firing, I'd look at the valves to see if one is stuck or clogged.

You can still buy many Model 79 parts from Gun Parts Corporation.

In France, you should be able to find a gunsmith who specializes in air guns, and he should be able to find the problem.

Good luck.

S&W 79G waiting

Hi,
yes I understand that I can add.
OK cartridge is properly struck,
OK Home chamber cartridge is pressurized
OK gun is waterproof
OK assembly and reassembly redone order and meaning of pieces verifies.
OK The work make et remake by two people.
OK no visible leads botched.

but One has the impression that the opening system is not powerful enough to open the gas arrives in the compression chamber.

Best regards.
