I just picked up a 629-1, 3" barrel, serial # BBA 10xx. My friend who I bought it from said its a Lew Horton, but the Book says it may be a "Back Packer". Any help nailing this down? Thanks in advance. Paid $600.

I really doubt its a "Backpacker"...that model wasn't around then. Does it have the wood finger groove combats on it? I think all the backpackers came with the Hogue mono grips on them. My 629-1 is serial# BBA-19** it has a 3" barrel and finger groove combats. I have not proven its a Lew Horton gun, I think that the serial# is too late to be one.
It looks like this...

Thanks Stoneman: My 629-1, 3" came with Hogue Rubber, finger groove, round butt. Serial # BBA 1076. My friend Dick has had it for 6-8 yrs. I bought it for him at a GunShow in Redmond, OR. I don't think its a Horton either, because according to the Book, the serial # should be AN_-xxxx. It may just be a 3" 629-1 with no special, cool model name. I was hoping someone with greater knowledge could shed some light on this fine weapon. I put some Ahrens on it from a 329 and they look much better, better balance between barrel length and grip length. thanks for your yelp.
