Is there anywhere here on the forum or anywhere else as far as that goes that would tell you what frame size you have if you have model XXX? I was also wanting to know if there was a link/list that would tell you what calibers match up to frame sizes/model numbers? For example if I had a model 29 I could look and see that it is frame size "XXX" or if I wanted to know what models were available chambered in the .44 mag it would tell me the different model numbers/frame sizes. Thanks in advance,Travis

Travis, Welcome to the Forum! Go to handloads.com Click on S&W model changes. This should help you out. There is a lot of neat stuff on this site. I use it for realoading info. Bob

Hi Travis,

There is a book: "The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson" which is the go-to reference on these matters. Commonly referred to as "SCSW" on this board. The Kindle version is about $15 and hardcover $24.

The 3rd Edition is on the right and it's worth the price. If you have a Barnes & Noble nearby they typically have them in stock. If not try online sources.

Really simplified generalizations follow. Model 29s are N-frames. The only .44 magnum S&W makes is the Model 29, its stainless version, the 629, and the unobtanium version, the 329. ;)

S&W uses model numbers to differentiate between calibers. The 25/625 is essentially the same gun as the 29/629, but the 25/625 is chambered in .45.

And just to break that rule, 25s and 625s may be found in both .45 Colt and .45 ACP, with different revision numbers. ;)

This would answer all your questions

The Standard Catalog also available on the Nook devices. I have it on both of my Nooks and one of them goes with me to gunshops and gunshows.
