Movies for revolver fans

The movie you're thinking of is Death Hunt. If you watch the trailer (link below), it looks like Bronson has a S&W. If you look at the photo gallery, it looks like Marvin has a Colt.

Death Hunt (1981)

Need some help with this one. If I remember right in the movie "The Departed" from a couple years ago, when Mr. French wrecks the cadillac and off's himself as the car blows up, he has a revolver. I have only seen the movie once and do not have a copy of it at home. What was it?

Google is my friend:

Colt Python
Mr. French (Ray Winstone) carries a snub-nose version of the Colt Python .357 Magnum throughout the film. It is seen most notably during the warehouse scene, when he cocks the weapon while it's concealed behind his back.

I saw a commercial for a TV show called "V" (never watched it I dont know) But they show someone opening a wood box with a red felt lining inside a S&W revolver, I think it had target stocks...

Do you know about IMFDB (Internet Movie Firearm Data Base) Main Page - imfdb :. guns in movies :. movie guns :. the internet movie firearms database

It lists practically every gun used in many popular movies. For example, if you write in "Smith & Wesson Model 66" you will get links to (among others) "Dawn of the Dead," Clint Eastwood in Tightrope and the Gauntlet, as well as Michael Douglas in Black Rain, Danny Glover in Predator2, etc. Cool site.

This is a really good site, but makes grievous errors. I just saw a S&W M-10 or M-13 there listed as a Colt Trooper. (action photo with a cop holding it in, "The Silence of the Lambs". And found no mention of, "Octopussy", a James Bond film using a Beretta Jetfire. But when I looked under Beretta Jetfire, the gun was listed. You may recall Maud Adams using it in the movie. If you have seen the movie and do not recall Maud Adams, you are too young or too old to enjoy such films fully. :D I think Maud was the only actress to be a Bond girl twice.

Also, the site does not list all films, of course, and some that were direct-to-video may not appear. I looked for, "I'm Watching You", which has the best film footage that I've seen of a Ruger GP-100. Not listed.

I'll check for, "Lady Jayne", starring Erika Eleniak. She had a S&W M-60 in it, and there were other guns. Good movie.

After a long pursuit on foot NYPD Det. Popeye Doyle (Gene Hackman) uses a S&W Model 36 (carried in a ankle holster) to finally kill Alain Charnier (Fernando Rey) at the end of the film French Connection II. He fires two shots double-action.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but in Hickey and Boggs Robert Culp and Bill Cosby use long barreled S&W revolvers. One is an 8-3/8 M14, and the other is either an M27 or M29 in the same barrel length. I really like their concealment strategy - a folded newspaper.

In Lethal Weapon (all of them I think) Sgt. Murtaugh carries an S&W model 19.

The main bad guy in Beverly Hills Cop has a 629 in the final sequence.

Just came across this thread while I was thinking about WAY OF THE GUN. I think Geofrey Lewis had a bag of revolvers in one scene and didn't James Caan go through the final shootout with a snubby? Haven't seen it in a while so I can't remember what's what, but am sure Caan used a snub.

Just finished watching "Blood Simple" an early Coen brothers film. A rather dark movie but was enlivened by the frequent appearance of a shiny nickel Smith revolver. Often seen in close-ups too. And the gun was pivotaI to the plot. It was an old Smith that had, what I believe to be called, a front break. It was similar to one left me by my father in the forties only to be stolen later in a home robbery. I'm still looking for the SOB that stole it. I have the serial number.

If anyone sees the movie and knows the model number I would love to know it.

Thanks,

HAM

Harrison Ford's S&W has a prominent role in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" as do Kurt Russell's pair of 629 Hunters in "Escape from LA". Westerns probably shouldn't count here (what else would they be carrying?), but "The Outlaw Josey Wales" should simply because Eastwood was carrying four revolvers at once; 2 Walker Colts, 1 1860 Army and an 1862 Pocket Navy.

"Dead Bang" with Don Johnson. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I think he was carrying a Colt Python or Diamondback. He carried speedloaders on his belt and I think he even only fired 6 shots each time before he reloads. In most movies they NEVER reload. Somebody in this movie knew guns.

S&W's have been featured in many movies and all listed for sure, but my fav, and I know we ain't supposed to say, Clint's .44 Mag against the Motorcycle Cop's .357! When the Motorcycle Cop walks up to the car w/the pimp and unloads point blank, well does hamberger come to mind!:eek:RH

All time tough guy Jimmy Cagney in The Public Enemy, had locked someone in a car trunk who was asking for more air. Cagneys reply was something like; you want air I'll give you air and he emptied the gun into the trunk. I think it was a 1911. I last saw the movie when there was 3 networks, no cable and 2 of the networks ran old movies across from Jack Paar or Johnny Carson so I might not remember the exact gun used.

Miller's Crossing! The fellow sees his man as he enters the room then quickly ducks back out beside the door...The fellow draws a Webley Green Army (.455) and lets him have it through the wall.
Plop.

I think the gun from Blood Simple is a New Departure. Great movie!

What about "Taxi Driver" with the great showing a model 29 with an 8 3/8" barrel, a nickel-plated S&W snub and various model 10s (in the hands of the pimp as well as responding NYPD police officers)?

Another one that comes to mind is "Lone Wolf McQuade" (Despite all those stupid jokes, who doesn't like Chuck Norris?). Ranger McQuade carries a nickel-plated S&W model 29 with a 6- or 6 1/2-inch barrel in a cross-draw holster. His partner from the Texas DPS uses the then-issue S&W model 28 "Highway Patrolman".

The last movies I recall where revolvers are making a good showing are "The Hitcher" - both the first one from 1986 and the (fairly good) remake from 2007. In the old version, main character Jim Halsey (C. Thomas Howell) is using a S&W model 66 mostly (this looks like the same gun as used by the Sheriff when Jim gets caught and arrested), while the killer is seen with a S&W model 28 in various scenes (probably snatched up by a State Trooper or an unwary motorist he has killed). In the remake from 2007, Grace Andrews (starred by Sophia Bush) is using a model 686 .357 Mag. revolver (interestingly, hers appears as being equipped with the internal lock...). I prefer the dark atmosphere of the original movie from 1986, but the remake was pretty good, too.

A favourite movie of mine is "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". Lawyer Dr. Gonzo (Benicio del Toro) takes a S&W model 19 "Combat Magnum" in a paper bag along on the trip. The gun is later fired by Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) in the Nevada desert. In the final scenes this fine gun is lying in the bottom of a toilet! It's a bizarre movie indeed.

What about TV series "Miami Vice"? Big exposure of SIG-Sauer P220, Bren Ten, Detonics Combat Master, S&W M645 and various FN Hi-Powers nonwithstanding, cop Ricardo Tubbs usually is seen carrying either a model 49 "Bodyguard" or model 38 "Bodyguard Airweight". When he expects big trouble, this fine, little revolver seems to be "backed-up" by a (what appears) S&W model 629 with a 8 3/8" tube. To this day, I REALLY enjoy the old "Miami Vice" TV series. Compared the the garbage filmed today, this one was mighty good. :)
