I have been thinking of getting one of these what brand of ammo does this gun like besides cci mini mags, it looks like they are rather ammo picky.

Picky? Not mine. It eats and spits out everything that's in the pic, as well as, a lot of other 22lr ammo. Never had any issues.

The 15-22's I am around will eat anything you put in the magazine except CCI Quiet. It is a little light to be reliable. I used CCI SV for a few years and have now gone to Eley CMP bulk. No problems with either of them.

What's important is keeping it clean and lubricated. Unlike other .22 semi autos, such as the Ruger 10/22, the Smith gets cranky when it gets dirty. I thoroughly clean mine (including the case head recess in the bolt with a dental pick) every time I shoot it.

I haven't had any problems with mine shooting the cheap stuff.

That's not to say there's never a misfire but they are rare and I think that's just rimfires in general.

Never had a problem with any ammo I've put through it. It's a durable gun and you will enjoy it. Proceed with the purchase!

Mine has been 100% reliable with any ammo I have tried. This includes bulk pack cheap stuff. Many thousands of rounds. I do not make an attempt to keep mine lean and lubricated either. It has been reliable even when dirty and well used. Buy one of these rifles. You will not be disappointed.

! Mine dislikes Gecco SV. It will cycle pretty much anything else. It got a steady diet of Highland AX HVHP for the first bunch of years. It now gets Winchester 555. I really enjoy shooting Remington Subs and Winchester Super X Subs.

Thanks for the reply, looks like I can shoot up my 1000 rounds of rem golden hp that my browning 1911 22 does not like!

My 15-22s are the least picky 22 semis I own. They'll shoot anything and everything I've thrown at them. Well, everything except most Winchester. I think their quality control is suspect, so I don't buy Winchester ammo unless it's the only thing available.

Blazer, mini mag, CCI standard vel., Remington golden bullet, Aguila in several varieties, Fiocchi, and probably several others I've forgotten all work well in mine.

I don't buy Federal (including American Eagle) any more, but mostly because it doesn't work well in my other 22s, The 15-22 will fire it, but some of my others won't.

I've had my 15-22 for 6 or 7 years, and have lost count to how many brand varieties and rounds I've put down range. Cheap bulk, fancy pack, full velocity, as well as sub-sonic with a can. I honestly don't know why people have the perception of them being picky eaters. I've had a few individual rounds fail, as you might expect with any gun. Mine isn't picky, its hungry! :D

I have two M&P 15-22s and they both will shoot anything from Sub-Sonic, Low Noise Hollow Points, right up to CCI Velocitors.

These photos have been posted before, but for those that missed them previously, here are my two M&P 15-22s shown with targets, 15 yds., improvised rest, that were shot with Federal Premium 40 gn. Hunter Match Hollow Points.

Is that a truglow scope on your rife

It sure is. Nice call. :) It's the Omnia 4 (4x). They also make an Omnia 6 (6x), and Omnia 8 (8x). I really didn't need 6x or 8x for this rifle for what I use it for. It's actually a really nice 30mm scope for the money. For around $220.00, it came with a 1 piece (non QD) mount (which I replaced with an Atibal 1 piece QD mount), flip-up covers, and throw lever. Multiple reticle brightness levels (reticle still seeable/usable if battery dies), positive click, locking target turrets, nice clear lens, plenty of eye relief, and, an uncluttered, simple, BDC/Hold-over reticle. I have no complaints with it.

That setup looks pretty sweet! I really like it, but I cringe every time you post it as the muzzle is pointed at your dog.

Never ever point the muzzle at something you aren't willing to destroy.

Well, it is pointed in his general direction, but, technically not 'AT' him. I am just a little smarter than that. But thanks for the reminder!
