MP22 Compact thread adapters

Just had my gunshop gunsmith remove the thread protector. They said it took a significant amount of force to remove. They got a wrench that didn't fit (from some other S&W handgun box) and taped it so the opening got smaller.

Anyway, what a waste of time, but at least it's done.

Wrench flats size:

OEM S&W M&P 22 Compact - .416"

SRI threaded adapter .446"

Just perfect. If my calculations are right, .416" = 10.5mm. So, a 10mm will be too small and a 11mm will be too big. :D

Thanks for measuring. Based on the pics, the Twin Tech adapter has the flats on the "ring" or shoulder, so any adjustable wrench or pliers should work for me.

Thanks for taking the time to measure and post the results.

I put the factory barrel nut back on, When I rack the slide back, I can feel the barrel nut and the lower side of the barrel rubbing against it, but If I take the recoil spring out, no rubbing at all, I think the recoil spring put pressure on the front of the slide to goes up few hair, cause the barrel nut to rubbing against the lower part of the muzzle end of the slide.

Going to call up Smith to find a solution.

I got my M&P .22 Compact yesterday, and I can say mine does the same thing with the factory barrel nut/protector on, and with the EWK thread adapter.

I think it happens because of a design choice at S&W. My M&P .22 doesn't do this because that barrel nut is the same diameter from front to back. The M&P .22 Compact barrel nut enlarges toward the opening, for whatever reason...

In any case, mine definitely rubs as the slide moves over the factory barrel nut or EWK thread adapter.

I'm going to assume it's normal.

I got the new Twin Tech threaded adapter, It's same size diameter as the barrel, It got worst rubbing against the lower side of the slide when I rack the slide back, I can feel it.

The reason the M&P 22Compact barrel nut enlarges toward the opening is for guiding the slide to the barrel. If they make a two tap in the front side of the frame to guide the slide like the full size of the M&P 40. It will not rubbing against the barrel.

I send my Compact to Smith, I like to see what are they are going to do for the rubbing, special If I use the threaded adapters.

I'd be surprised if S&W didn't just send it right back and tell you it's normal. But I'll wait for others to chime in.

I understand slide ride against the fame. but not the front for the barrel nut rubbing the slide. I won't be surprised they said is normal LMAO.

I'm serious. I'll not be surprised if they say it's normal. I know my full-size .22 rubbed just a teeny weeny bit. I can see the slight slide wear right at the front if I shine a flashlight in there on the full-size.

Twin Tech adapter showed up today. Very nice, easy to install with an adjustable wrench. Had a spare SiCo TP that fits on it just right.

I put the adapter on and took some comparison pics.

SiCo M&P22 on the top, SiCo GSG 1911-22 in the middle, Twin Tech M&P22C on the bottom:

Then, to compare with a Spectre II mounted...SiCo 22:

All 3 with identical fake cans I have lying around (the fake cans stop on the SiCo adapters after the last thread before they hit the new shoulder, hence the small gap, but it's the best I could do to get identical setups since my other two Spectre IIs are atill pending):

Great pics. Thanks. Those 3 designs all seem to extend the can further out from the slide than the SRI in Strobro's pic (#52) above. Are there advantages/disadvantages to having the can mount more tightly to the end of the slide? Thanks. JF

No real advantage or disadvantages. You're talking 1/4" or less. The only downside I can think of with the SRI would be dependent of the design of the can. If the mounting surface was slightly recessed in the can, there's a chance the can hits the slide if there's less room between slide and the adapter's shoulder.

Has anyone tried the TROS adapter? Any opinions?

From the picture, It look like enlarges toward the opening is for guiding the slide. Much better than my twin tech.

My Compact on the way from Smith. They can't do anything about rubbing the slide. from the barrel nut.

Do any one here with TROS, are they enlarges toward the opening??

After 25 days, Smith can't do anything about rubbing. Wasting my time. Do any one here with TROS?

I got tired waiting for GemTech, so I bought the EWK Arms. I'll try it out next time I'm at the range.

Update-wrenches available for the factory barrel nuts, and perhaps most interesting, is a mod for fixing the rubbing between the barrel nut/adapter and slide. See attached PDF. Let me know what you guys think. :)

I like it! I'll be a guinea-pig, so to speak! I ordered the wrench and the the centering bushing. Well done, there. :) Great PDF guide, too. EWK, you have my business again!
