I had a Model 15-2 on layaway at the LGS. I was waiting to pick it up, because it was on the 30 day quarantine as a used gun that came in as a trade. It was $399 before tax.

This gun was the subject of this thread:
http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1961-1980/353662-price-check-15-3-update.html

Anyway, I got it home and cleaned it up. It has normal wear, but looks fine to me. Mechanically, it is excellent. I can't wait to get it to the range.

The stocks are just some incorrect non-PC Magnas that have the serial number for a different gun. I am looking to get a set of Ahrends cocobolo or cordia smooth tactical grips for this gun. I'd go for diamond Targets, but the don't fit my very small hands. In the meantime, it will be wearing Pachmayr Gripper Professionals. I'm not a fan of rubber grips, but those work very well for me at the range.

I know that the 15-2s were produced from 1962-1967. Can anyone help me with a more precise date? The serial number of the gun is K769906. Thanks.

You will enjoy your Model 15. I have several but this 1969 15-3 is my go to gun for enjoyment and sometimes I even carry it.

The later model smooth targets I like very much and they are great under a sport coat or suit jacket.

Can't offer you any more info regarding your model 15. But they are very popular around this forum. I have one that won't win any contests for beauty but its nice and tight and shoots great. Enjoy yours. Frank

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

I haven't been able to break away from work to take the M15 to the range, but I did manage to get osme new grips for her. These are Ahrends smooth tactical grips in moradillo wood. I got them from their eBay store.

Never had a set of Ahrends, but these grips feel great in the hand. Also, I have small hands, and they aren't too big. I'm very happy about the fit and finish of these grips.

Also I did a little bit of cold blue touch up (with Oxpho) and used acetone to remove some old fingernail polish from the front sight. These small efforts really improved the looks of the gun.

I predict you will love that 15.
They are great shooters.
They have earned the high praise they receive.

Fredo Batali, your 15 is just too darned pretty.
I like it a lot.
Where'd ya get the stocks?
A set of those would look great on mine.

I have ham hands with sausage fingers.
L-XL hand size. M finger length. L-XL finger girth.
Makes it "interesting" to find stocks that fit my hands.

Pachmayr Grippers are excellent grips.
Not as pretty as Magnas, but very good for shooting.
I may see if I can get some Gripper Professionals for my 10-6, 15-3, and 586.

You'll love it. The 15-3 I gave to my son went to him wearing smooth finger groove Hogues. I bought the Hogues because the grips that were on it when I got it were kindling. Didn't think I'd like them - boy was I wrong.

Nice catch. I recently picked up a 2" 15-2 with a little blue wear, but it has a nice, crisp trigger and shoots like it has radar. It is more accurate than some of my longer barreled target pistols! I think the name "Combat Masterpiece" fits...in any barrel length! Enjoy!

Congrats on finally bringing her home! Now find some period leather and have fun at the range!

Just when I thought I was finished with all the Smiths I wanted. Looks like a model 15 four inch is going on the list.
Great buy and great follow up pics and comments.
