My first N Frame, what was yours?

Model 57 4" bbl, blue, given to me as a birthday present by my then girlfriend in 1979 -- still a beauty after all these years (both her and the Model 57) -- we are still friends although we both married someone else.

My first N-Frame was a 28-2 that I purchased 3 days after I turned 21, the legal age to own a handgun in CA. At the shop I went to, there were 2 choices that fit my budget, the M28-2 for $125 and a Colt New Frontier SSA for $165.

I choose the M28 because I didn't want a "Cowboy Gun" and my budget would only support one purchase... with today's value of a Colt New Frontier, I wish I had the means back then for both. But the M28-2 did go on to serve as my duty weapon when I became a LEO... many, many moons ago. I foolishly sold it off to buy a M29-2... I wish I could find it and by that bugger back.

My first, and only, N Frame was my Dad's pre-Model 27 with
6" bbl. that I got with box, papers & tools.

I received my first N-frame in 2006 after returning from Iraq. My uncle gave me a Model 57 no dash new in box. That was my second smith, and what started me collecting. The 19 being my first.

My first N-frame and first revolver period was a 629-4 Alaskan Backpacker. I had neve had any interest in revolvers why they were an old mans gun surely my W. German P226 was enough. I walked in my local indoor range and in the case was this big honken revolver along with an even bigger 629 performance center I'm talken big long barrel. I like the smaller of the two and asked to see it. My buddy behind the counter not only let me see but handed me a box of shells and said go shoot it no charge. Well I was hooked it has led me down a revolver loving road I know have my original 629-4 a 19-5 snubnose and a little no lock 442. No pic of the 442 but here are my snubbies :-)

My first N frame S&W was a nickel Model 29-2 with 6 ½ in. bbl. from the late 1970s. In 1980 the spirit of Harry Callahan was loose upon the land, and I sought help finding one from Beckwith Gunshop in Micanopy, Florida. The owner and my friend, the late Harry Beckwith, searched for a time, then sold me this 29 from his personal collection. My wife made the green fabric cover to spiffy up the deteriorated insert in the presentation box.
Harry and his wife, the late Marge Beckwith, were kind people and philanthropic in the local community. I remember fondly Saturday mornings in which I would pack my small boys in the car and head down to Uncle Harry's to drink root beer and look for any new old Smiths that might have come in. Follow the link to read about another side of Harry.

My first N frame was a M 27 8 3/8" th, tg & tt in the wooden box. A year later I added a twin M 29 8 3/8 tg, th & tt in the wooden box. Prettiest shade of blue velvet.....I have no pictures and only fond memories of both revolvers. I traded them both. I was not too smart in those days (mid 70's) but I learned my lesson, the nightmares still haunt me.

I was not into revolvers until my dad passed in 1980. I got his Smiths and became a fan. My first N frame was a M29-2, 4", nickel, shipped in 1980 and I got it in 1983. Thought the year was appropriate. Yes, I still have it.

1976 at Fort Huachuca.
A fellow pistol team member had scored three Model 29s, one each 4", 6" and 8-3/8".
He kept the 6" and gave me my choice of the others.
Grabbed the 8-3/8 incher in a heartbeat.
Its still with me, having served as my walkabout, hunting and silhouette gun.

My first N-Frame was a 29 (don't remember the dash), factory nickle, 6" barrel with presentation case. Unwisely sold it in 1990. My second one was a 27-3, 4" barrel that was stolen only 2 weeks after I got it. Never heard of it again. My third was the same gun, some weeks later. I still have it.

My next one will be (hopefully) a 624 4" (LNIB), at this time on layaway at a dealer. Just have to finish succesfully my class for a hunting license (first exam was today :D), then I have to apply for a permit to buy it. German gun laws...

best regards
Ulrich

Model 28 followed by the M25 in 45 Colt(4"). I don't have either anymore.:( That was all back in the mid-late 70's.

My first first N frame was also my first handgun, a model 28 6" bought September 1st 1972 for $121.93 from Hayward Police Supply. It was my duty weapon for 6 years. Unfortunately I was stupid and used a very hot hand load from another deputy on a very hot day. Alas I found mysel needing to do major internal repairs or replace and I chose to replace. My new K frame model 13 4" was lighter and less trouble in the car. I foolishly sold the 28 to my lieutenant and he did some repair and converted it.

this 28-2 was my first N frame. It was somewhat of an impulse buy...beautiful gun that was priced right and a great shooter...but not exactly what i was searching for at the time. Traded it for a '53 Combat Masterpiece.
