Just bought a 'carried a lot, shot little' 4046 (probably a former LEO trade in). It had a fair amount of holster wear and being all stainless I decided it was the perfect candidate for a home restoration project. I used a green Scotchbrite pad from the kitchen and in about an hour had amazing results. Its a bit shinier than factory and a bit of 'grain' but not bad at all for a shooter.

The before pics were from the GB add where I bought it, so my after pics don't have the same lighting.

I am encouraged by what you've done! I'll be doing the same thing soon.

Wow! From your pics the "after" shots look factory. Great job. I don't like when folks use a polish and end of up with a very shiny non-factory look. Yours looks right!

nicely done....I love me some scotch brite pads.....I just ordered an assortment pack and an extra few of the gray pads

Great timing! I've wanted to give it a try for some time on some of my over polished pieces. 3M has several different grades. I'm looking forward to it.
Thanks for the encouragement.

I read the various posts on the different colors/grits of scotchbite pads. Green was often mentioned as good at reproducing the factory finish, but I wasn't sure if the green pads I was reading about were the same as the regular green kitchen pads. Figured I didn't have much to lose so gave a kitchen pad a try and it worked well so I guess it is the same. :)

Looks great! I've done that with my Rugers, haven't hit my stainless smith, yet...
