My Idea of a Kit Gun

I like the 4 inch kit guns and always wished S&W had made a .38 Regulation Police and/or Model 33 in .38 Special with a four inch tube. I think that they considered the three inch guns close enough. I guess one could have a four inch .22 Kit Gun barrel rebored and remarked but that would be a pretty spendy inch.

Buff,

It'd be a lot easier to start with the 5" Model 60 .38 Special Chiefs Special and wack off an inch! Or just re-thread a 4" Model 10 barrel.

Yes, and it might be a matter of personal taste, but the 5 inch barrel M-60, with that too-long ejector rod shroud, is so ugly! JIMHO, of course!

I guess with enough work you could make a K frame barrel fit on a J frame, but I can make my Crown Vic fit into a microwave oven box with about the same effort, I think. I saw a similar thing happen in Goldfinger, the James Bond movie with Sean Connery, but that car was a brand new Lincoln.

Couldn't agree more on the 5" plus I have little use for stainless although very popular and I know I'm in the minority.

So Mod 10 slender barrels would be my preference or even Model 15 slender barrel if I was going to put a target sight on the rear.

Currently put a slender shrouded 45 Mtn gun target barrel on a 1917. Removed the rib and ramp front sight and replced it with a 1917 1/2 penny blade. It's SS of course but I'll have it blued.

It'd be sacrilegious to carve on a factory Mod 36 Target.

Jim: I have long admired your .32 Kit Gun. I almost had one like that made up just when S&W introduced the M-631. Not a pretty blue, but okay on every other count.

Buff,

You lucky guy, that's a real prize. Don't see too many of those. If they weren't so scarce, and if I found one, I'd be tempted to have it blued.

Let me first say...... nice bricks...... but what type of grass is that?

For about 5 years here on Sarcasm Central I've been posting about my current "Kit gun"... a 3" 60-10 in .357 magnum....think micro 686.... loaded to taste with shotshells to to +P .38s to......... ouch! .357s!

I would post a picture......... but after news reports yesterday.... I'm not sure if the backdrop is 100% Egyptian cotton or not!

Personally I think the people on this forum especially newer members should show more respect to members like Texas Star. He is one of the most helpful and informative members here and should be treated as such.

Personally I think that respect is earned and not given out like candy on Halloween.

Mr. Texas Star started the show with being pompous and he got it right back.

I agree with you and started a thread on that a couple weeks ago on the wish list forum. I like the overall appearance of the 4" j frame, and ammo is more varied in 38spec. Having both a 33 and a 63 with 4" bbls they just feel "right" in my hand. I'll have to start loading my 33 to see what I come up with as I don't think Smith is going to make my wish altho i did get some good advise on the thread responses.

The Buffalo Bore ammo runs just under $1.50 per round. Money well spent.

My basic idea is that the ideal kit gun for you is the one in caliber, frame size, barrel length, and sights is the one that suits your needs and desires sufficiently well (and is available and affordable to you) to be on your hip when the opportunity arises. My ideal "kit gun" would be the adjustable sighted stainless Model 631 in 327 Fed Mag... unfortunately I don't currently have the extra $1500-2000 it would take to make my dream come true. OTOH, with a little help from a friend I was able to get a Model 60-4 that does most of the same stuff and does it well, so I'm OK for now. Kit guns, like most other personal firearms are just that, personal. So of course YMMV.

Froggie

PS I might be able to "get by" with a 4" adjustable sighted pre-War 32 HE, a custom option I've been looking into, but I'd end up spending almost as much building that as buying the 631! :(

I have option anxiety.
.32-.32 Kit gun
Pro: A real sixshooter.
Con: New caliber to tool up for.

.38-.32 Kit gun
Pro: Common caliber (I mean the Specials, not S&W, although I still have some .38 S&W ammo and can improvise dies.)
Con: Only five shots.

Hmm, now where was that ad for the Police Positive Target?

Re: Identifying props. If you want to know what the stuff is, ask. On the other hand, I get kind of tired of the common picture of a knife alongside the gun. What, you expect to run out of ammo and have to slash your way out of trouble?

We're about an hour apart from one another.

I apologize, I should have known that S&W Regulation Police 38 S&W (Pre-33) wasn't good enough.

The firearm in the photo is displayed on 3 bricks that were in a pile behind my barn. I'm not certain who made the bricks, but I can look into it.

The green stuff around the bricks is grass. I'm not a horticulturist so I'm not certain as to they type of grass. I'm pretty sure God created it, unless you don't believe in God. In that case I'm pretty sure it just happened.

The ammunition is held in a 5 round Quickstrip. Item number T0814. The Quickstrip was purchased from Amazon (not to be confused with the river or rather tall women). Amazon is an internet/online business used for the purchase of items.

The internet is what I'm utilizing to convey information to the uninformed.

I apologize as I don't recall the cost of the Quickstrips nor the Buffalo Bore Ammo. I'd have to go to the respective internet sites and find my receipts again.

I do recall what I paid for the S&W (Smith & Wesson) Regulation Police (chambered for 38 S&W, not to be confused with Special). I also recall what I paid for the holster.

The purchase price for the holster and firearm are no one's business, regardless if you ate grits with Elmer Keith.

At least give dimensions and weight for each brick in case some of us want to duplicate them. ;)

You could get your county agent to come out and ID the grass, and get back to us with that info. Please tell us what you use to cut it, and if you fertlize it, or just count on BS. :D
I would ask what church you go to, but religion is on the banned topics list.

Have you been to the Amazon?
Have you ever seen a real Amazon woman? Just asking cause I'm not sure they are real. I keep my eyes open for them, though, just in case. Bigfoots and unicorns too. ;)

You should have credited Al Gore for inventing it.

Do you know what type plastic is used to make the strip?
On the ammo-
Bullet weight, alloy, and muzzle velocity would help.
I'd appreciate both the published velocity, and actual from your gun. If you don't have a chronograph, you might be able to get one on Amazon.

Well! Would you at least share whether it was cash or charge? :D

{ I don't often laugh out loud, but you're GOOD. You cracked me up with this one. ;) }

Yes, Yes, No, No and I like eggs.

Bitter!!!!!

Steely85,
I don't think that I'v ever read replies as bitter, and nasty as the ones you have given to the forum members that showed interest, and ask questions about your post, showing a gun that you obviously wanted to share with the forum members, but evidently were not wanting to share other particulars with them. I just caught myself before I made the horrible mistake of asking the holster's maker! I am certainly glad that I didn't. A good way to keep from prompting all those terrible personal questions, that bother you so much, could be avoided by not posting at all! I don't know what would cause you to be so bitter towards your fellow forum members. I hope that You find relief. You have all of my sympathy.
