My last gun I'll ever buy... that's it.

I had the luxury of having a seizure and died this past May at the age of 49, a reaction to medications taken post cancer surgery... I got better... once the Meds got sorted out I have been doing much better during my second round of Chemo... it has not stopped me from buying more "stuff"... since then I have purchased my late uncles Rem 1100 shotgun... a Sig 716... a Ruger MKII competion... and a Phoenix HP22... nope never the last one...

Life can be shockingly short and it's up to us to enjoy it. Accordingly, I second your attitude towards hobbies whole heartedly. This was exactly my mindset when my grail gun became available in my back yard last year...

I have tried over and over again to send in my resignation to the gun of the month club but they refuse to take it.
They just laugh and send it back with a new picture of some nice obscure shooter at a fair price and the next thing I know I am ordering reloading dies to go with it .........

I am 67 and have most of the S&W's I want and can afford , grail gun is a 27-2 6 1/2" blue 98 percent (anybody) . I have switched my interest to WW II hand guns and knives have really enjoyed the hunt . Plan to keep looking God willing .

I never collected per se. I find something I like and might buy a couple of the same, or variants, for shooting. I seem to go into buying fits, which are usually precipitated by selling fits. You get on the classifieds to sell your item, then see something you like, or someone offers you a trade and off you go...

We musta been separated at birth.

My "collection" may not grow much, but I'll never be done horse-tradin.

If I could only buy one more gun, it would be a snubbie j frame. Being 67, always enjoyed watching the detective shows where they carried the snubbie. Just wish I could find the never ending firing j frames that were on the show(ha, ha).

You've got a great accumulation going there.

About your question ..... my advice is to "never say never"! I also thought a Python was out of reach. Then a friend turned me onto one that was a fair buy; not a steal and not over-priced. I took the plunge and sold 6 common and easily-replaceable guns to fund that $2k purchase.

Sometimes if you quit looking one will come your way.

For starters, I have given up and am ok with never buying:
1. The Marlin 39A that I wanted for years
2. Any revolver chambered for a round otherr than 357/38special
3. Any more semi-automatic handguns except one 1911
4. Any more shotguns
5. A fifty caliber rifle
6. Any Colt Firearm
7. The Isreali Mauser that I looked for for years
8. Any firearm chambered in 380 or 40
9. The longer for S&W Model 940

Just like you,I had quitted on a Python...and found one for $600.The gentleman had purchased it in 1959(Made in 1956),shot 13 rounds with it(12 .38Spl and 1 .357 Mag)and,being afraid to have it stolen,hid it inside a wall....and forgot about it until 2 years ago when he had his wall opened up to build an addition to his home.
The blue is flat but mechanically speaking,it is like new.But I nonetheless have to fight the guys off of it when I bring it to the range!
I think I'm gonna quit looking for a High Wall in 38-55 ...and a 5'' model 27...and a Winchester model 70 featherlite ,and a......well,you know!

No that's it for me, last one. I love the .357 load and guns, and the .44 mags too. Here is my buying history for the .357:
#1 S&W Model 19-3 6" blue 6 shooter - still have it
#2 S&W Model 65-1 4" SS 6 shooter - I bought a second one for my best friend because he kept borrowing mine.
#3 S&W Model 686-4 6" SS 7 shooter - love the 6 inch long 357 mag
#4 S&W Model 686-4 2.5" SS 7 shooter - this has been my part time carry gun, the other is my Colt Defender 45
#5 S&W Model 586-5 6" blue 6 shooter - just had to have that 6 inch blue
#6 S&W Model 586-7 4" blue 7 shooter with lock removed - I just had to have that 4 inch blue 7 shot Smith. Could not find the 686-4 pre-lock
#7 S&W Model 686-6 4" SS 7 shooter with lock - I could not find the 686-4 7 shot pre-lock. So I bought this fine shooter.
#8 S&W Model 686-5 4" SS 7 shooter pre-lock - not the 686-4 7 but close enough, bought it from a friendly forum member, that is it for me!

I took the new 686-5 out to the range and it shot spot on center punch at about 40 feet. I am happy with it. However I noticed a constant shake in my right hand. It is more noticeable while eating. A new gun will not solve that problem, it is a age thing, been there for better than a year.
So there you have it, no more buying guns for me.

I agree with you 100% .. The thrill of the hunt, looking for the next deal, Buying one, driving home from the LGS and thinking about what one you will be searching for .. You said it right.. " the chase was 1/2 the fun " .. I tell my shooting buddies after every new SW revolver I buy, this is it for awhile. They laugh and say, that's what you said 2 weeks ago .. I think atleast with me, it will never stop, the search, the endless hours looking at this model, reseaching that model. Great post Walter

I am fortunate to have acquired almost every gun I really wanted, plus others I didn't know I wanted until I ran across them. When I was a kid I could recite a list of the guns I was going to own when I "grew up", and I have all but three of them. I still hope to find a Colt SAA and a Ithaca 1911A-1, but I have given up on getting a Colt Diamondback. The prices for the Diamondback are insane. The last one I saw for sale had an asking price higher than what I paid for several of my cars. I am not paying several thousand dollars for the novelty of owning the same model of gun John Wayne carried in the movie "Brannigan". Even I have my limits.

I don't actively search for any gun, I just wait until I run across them. So far this year I picked up a 5" 27-2, a 1950 .357 3.5", a 66ND 4", and a LNIB 25-5 6" just by walking in my local shop to say hi. After that run of good luck I hope I don't find the SAA or Ithaca in the near future, as I am now a little short of disposable income.

I told my kids I don't buy guns; most of them I just rent for a few years. If you buy a nice used S&W and keep it nice, you can always get your money back if you ever want to sell it. Of course, sometimes you never want to sell it..Willyboy

I look at the gun classifieds daily. (more than once) There is nothing that I NEED! I do enjoy TRADING. That started out when I was a kid. (not guns then) Don't know why I want still a .44. Have 45 Colt, & .45 ACP in revolvers. Load them, and not .44. I keep looking though. Am 63, and just love the HUNT! Bob

I turned 60 last week and over the past month prior to that day I instantly turned into a AR guy.......because I never had one and decided why not.

There is still one more coming next week, colt completion rifle.

I think I am done.......oh wait this came in this week

Now I am done until I see what is at the gunshow today.
