Hi all, found this one last winter and seeing how I have a new camera, (still figureing out how to use it) I am posting some pic's. This one is a M-681-3, C.R.P.D.,(Con Rail Police Department) issue in cal. .38 special, one of approximately 465 made. Serial number BDT0608, according to the S.C.of S&W it's about the third one made. It had been shot and carried a bit but cleaned up nicely. I had her out to the range and it's a nice shooter, although it prints about one inch left of point of aim. I sure wish it had the box and such but ya can't have everything I guess! My father in law retired from Con Rail and he collect's Con Rail stuff and just about drooled over it. If I croak before him, it's his!

That is an awsome piece. I like the odd ball stuff that Smith puts out. The 586 in 38 special is another one of those collectables that is way cool.

Thanks for posting your CRPD 681, Bob. Great pictures. Acquiring one of those is on my short list.

Totally agree, a handsome revolver. Good find. I have a 681 (no dash) that was issued to an officer I work with back in the 80's. It is a 357 magnum and I am very grateful to have it.

FYI Your CRPD 681 was a special order through Pa.Police supply,in Chalk Hill Pa.(now called the officer store) Unique in that all 681`s were 357 Magnum at the time.If you called and talked to the former owner he could give you the info first hand.

Thank's for all the kind comment's and info. When I found this one I did not really know what it was. I have a thing for .38 special service revolvers so I snached it up. Thank's to the knowlageable and kind folk's on this forum I soon found out what I had. I finally picked up a copy of S. C. of S&W and it along with you folk's are a weath of information.
