My Most Favorite K frame

A 15-3 (K996XXX) I got in 2017 at the Orlando show from a competitive shooter for the princely sum of $325. It's had countless rounds through it before me and a couple thousand I've shot. Very hard to pin down a "favorite" K frame, they are like a set of wrenches, each one fits a different need. Joe

I have quite a few more N-frames than I do K-frames, but the K's are great revolvers. I have a .32-20 M&P (1905 4th Change, 1923), a K22 (1948), a .38 M&P (1950), a Model 15-2 (1962), and a Model 19-4 (1977). However, my favorite K-frame is a 1973 Texas Ranger Commemorative Model 19-3. The fit and finish are outstanding, as are the special features and smooth target stocks. I'm a shooter not a collector, and the TR is extremely smooth and accurate and fits my hands perfectly.

Just like Goldilocks said about her bear friends, the K-frame is just right. It was tough to pick out a favorite. The one that makes me grin the most is a 16-2. Possibly to the consternation of some collectors, I shoot it. I handload pipsqueak .32 wadcutters for it. A pound of powder goes a heckuva long way with those tiny charges. It's debatable how much the primer or the powder contributes the most to muzzle velocity.

I have many favorites. Usually the one I have in my hand. But came across a model 13-2 and model 10-5 the other day. The only nickel Smith's I own. I did have a nickeled model 15 with a 2.5 inch barrel 40 years ago.

I have no "new" K-frames, only J's built in the 70's-on. But I do have four older ones. Three are my favorite .38's. Left to right, my 1913 HE 3rd version, 1948 K-38 Pre-14 Masterpiece, and 1950 Pre-10 M&P. Not pictured is my 1947 K-22 Masterpiece.

Many years ago, when I was being transferred, I got rid of all my S&W "blue boxes" in which my guns came in --- at the time I was just trying to "slim down" my household goods shipment --- now that I look back --- getting rid of the blue boxes was a REALLY DUMB MOVE on my part. Lots of regrets.

My favorite K frame is my 64-6 that has been re-barreled with a "pencil barrel" shown pictured with a 2 and 3 inch 64-6.
