My next project - 4566TSW makeover

Bill,

You're welcome.

Here's a pic of my Shorty Forty Five. All the blued bits (eight, I think) pulled and Armorlloyed.

They do great work.

Good looking rig ya got there Cat. I may have to take a second look at mine.

Ya know I sure do wish S&W had seen fit to make those shorties in a all steel version. Don't get me wrong, I'm very fond of mine but those alloy frames have a limited lifespan whereas the steel guns, well... I don't imagine me ever wearing even one of mine out even if I could afford the ammo.

Cheers

Thanks Bill. It shoots even better than it looks.

I agree about the steel frame. I would love a Shorty in all steel and a 4506 with the same treatment as a Shorty.

Great thread, thanks. Sold my 4566TSW, but miss it. Two things about it that bugged me were the billboard and dull checkering, and your work really fixed this gun up.

i joined this forum, just so i could complement you on a job well done.

Bill,
Love your work and abilities.
Per your #60 Post and still needing a "N" Frame Hammer.
I've got one that I purchased to take measurements from and I no longer need it.
PM me and I'll send it to you as a favor since I've gotten so much enjoyment reading both of your project threads from start to finish.

BMCM--As one vet to another what is that watercraft you post? I have a 4566 and some questions--especially regarding getting an adjustable rear sight. Fantastic pics. What do you use for closeups? Retired LEO

That old girl is the Point Barnes WPB-82371. She was the very first ship I served at the beginning of my career. I think I had more sheer fun on that old boat than the entirety of the next 28 years. She was the presidential security cutter when Nixon lived on Key Biscayne then was later moved to Fort Pierce Florida in 1975. She was decommissioned and transferred to Jamaica many years ago.

Nothing fancy for my pictures... I use a canon powershot SD870IS using the macro setting in combination with the digital zoom and keeping the built in flash turned off.

For an adjustable backsight for your 4566 I don't think you can do much better than an LPA TR series sight.

It looks like this:

You can get these from Midway or direct from the importer
Precision Sales International, Inc.

I suspected that was an 82 footer. I was in Key West for most of 1971, and remember going up the the base in Miami and seeing those Cigarette-style boats with Coast Guard racing stripes and on the fancy trailers that were supposedly part of the Key Biscayne security assets.

I came across this thread today, & I ended up following it all
the way to the end. Having recently discovered an interest in
TSW's in myself, I was impressed with your end result. Beautiful
gun! My semis are mostly polymer, but I'm getting more interested
in "real steel". I like .40's, so maybe a 4013TSW? Anyway, meticulous
work, sir.
