My Pre 29 arrived. Very disapointed have to send it back

And i did ask the seller about the details, was not told the truth. Also on auction arms there is a 3 day return policy on all guns.

Obviously you knew most of the "issues" when you bought it. For peace of mind, you should do a fair and honest evaluation of how much you think you overpaid. In other words, knowing what you now know, what is a fair price?

The four screw .44 Magnum, with cokes and all, has to be worth something. Figure out what that is. Then figure out what it would cost to send it back and add that amount. Then subtract that figure from what you paid. What is the "net loss"?

My guess -> it is probably within $100 or so of what you paid. Is that worth losing sleep over?

There are a lot of "rescue" threads where folks seem to really enjoy bringing a neglected revolver back to its former glory. That could be you.

The seller did an honest job of describing the gun, and the pictures are good. As for the closing price it is fair in this day and age for a near mint example going for 2500.00 without the case and tools and the grips alone selling for 300.00 to 400.00. for a gun that retailed for under 200.00 when new. I don't know what you were expecting but you got what you paid for. Any S&W 5 screw, 4 screw .44 mag,or 29, 29-1, 29-2 will develop end shake and timing problems after a fair amount of shooting with factory loads and even worse if a hand load was made by a rocket scientist.

I`m sorry you are unhappy with the deal. I think you paid too much and will likely never recoup the loss. If it costs you $100 or so to return it you should do so and learn from your mistake.

I don't see where the seller failed to describe the gun accurate. It was labeled a project gun, it said it was pitted, cracks in the stock etc.

Did you overpay, yes, but that's on you, not the seller. I suspect your buyers remorse is coming from that more than anything. Again it was labeled a project gun and there's nothing wrong with it that can't be fixed by any competent gunsmith. JMO.

I did not monitor the auction, but my guess is that some of the bidders wanted the cokes and were calculating how much they should bid based on the "get rid of it" value of the gun sans cokes.

If someone wanted cokes badly enough, he may have gone a bit over market value, maybe quite a bit, just so he does not have to look any more.

But that's how auctions go. To outbid the others, you have to go beyond whatever their "stretched maximum" may be.

That puppy is rough, with a capital R, but the pictures and description say it all. The answers to your questions could have been misleading, and that is why I prefer FTF. I make mistakes, even on FTF buys, but I just suck it up. Good luck with it.

This thread was about if i should return the gun or keep it,not if the seller will return my money. I have sold and bought over 100 guns online and any honest seller will have a 3 day return policy. For those that answered the orignal ? thank you.For the rest of you WOW, pile on the newbe.I returned the gun so i am out 46.00. THIS WILL BE MY LAST POST

Sorry you don't feel welcome John. This is a pretty civil and polite Forum by all comparisons I've seen to most others, but in any communication that is conducted by typed words, nuances of tone and inflection are lost so comments can come off seeming harsh, when they aren't intended that way. I see this all the time with e-mails and texts too! Don't sweat it! Sorry to see a fellow Bronco fan leaving angry!

Hope you stick around. I can understand why you bought it. I'd have taken a long look at it too, because that sort of thing appeals to me. Revolvers like that intrigue me more than ones that look like they've never been out of the box. But in the end, it went for too much for what it is. But like I said, I can understand why you bought it.

john145, don't go away angry. You asked for and received opinions. Not surprisingly, the opinions vary among the various posters. Some people do not sugar coat their opinions.

Wow, put your big-boy pants on, be a man and take the opinions...if you're that thin-skinned you shouldn't be on a forum...these folks were only trying to help you...you don't have to accept the opinions but you asked...

I have asked for opinions on this Forum and have received some that I could only describe as "brutally honest".

Well, I did request opinions... :o

It's best not to be too easily offended here, because most folks don't mean to give offense, they just speak the unvarnished truth as they see it. So I'm not too thin-skinned any more. Many people here say what they think, which is actually really refreshing. It's sure a whole lot better than talking to a bunch of mealy-mouthed phonies.

My thinking is that it would be better for us and better for you if you stay around and keep posting about guns you buy, sell, and shoot. But if you must go, go in peace and know you can come back any time you feel like it. :)

I too am sorry that you are leaving the forum unhappy. I just went back and re-read the posts. Looks like you got a good cross-section of advice and opinions from people who took the time to be interested enough to give you their honest opinions. Some you may have liked, obviously from the above post there were some that you did not appreciate. I saw no posts that I found to be attacking in nature - just honest feedback.

I wish you all the best. :)

The responses were the typical differences of opinion seen in most threads on any forum. Different responders have widely differing viewpoints and opinions based upon their own experiences or lack thereof. It's very seldom that all, or even most, responses support the same conclusions.

I saw that but did not bid. I am retiring and did not want to spend on another gun, my wife just bought me a pre-27 with all the blue, a light turn ring and it appears to have never been fired for about $900.

Last spring I bought a boxed 29-2, it looks NIB, the box will have to be refinished. I Sold the gentleman a boxed model like NIB 24 for 750 and only if he sold me the 29-2 for 900. He came down 295. He did not get the cash he wanted but both of us were happy.

So there are very, very nice ones out there for slightly more than you paid.

Obviously you did not get the answer you were looking for. You have to answer that.

My mother once told me this, "if you are man enough to ask a question you have to be man enough to accept the answer" Quote from Mom, don't know from who she stole it.

I almost bid on the gun you bought because it has cokes, it is a pre 29 and appears to be "rebuildable" or "restorable".

Now I wish I had purchased it. Know why, I see the potential in that gun.

Sorry this one did not work out for you. You mentioned buying over 100 guns on line. Specific types? Revolvers?
