My S&W model 66-1

Since I was about 20 years old, I've always had a picture of what hand gun I would want to bring with me for deer hunting. And also have it by my bedside. And the picture in my mind is a 4" 66. Or I guess the picture might be a 4" 19 Nickel. LOL. But I think I was thinking stainless for hunting would be better.

OP, I like the Magnas on there. They look right. Needs a T grip though. :)

66-1 from 1980. I tried to get a 4" but back then, here in the swamp, pure unobtainium. Even wrote S&W who wrote back to explain the wholesalers can't get enough to fill LE orders (100's) let alone one. Had to trade my 19-3, a junk .25 and 2 .22's for this one. I'm keeping it. Joe

I'd like to add my 3"
66-3 to the mix. Wearing
Keith Brown Hideout Ropers

Love this set up....very nice

40 years ago, I purchased a blue Mid 19. At that time I thought there was no better gun (except for M29). I thought the M66 were just a "cheap" copy. Over the years I have owned 3 M66 (6" 4" 2.5") and now have a great respect for the M66. I still consider my blue M19 my first love, but the M66 is now my best friend.

I prefer trios.... my -1 2.5" unfired since it left the factory. Can decide whether to shoot it or save it....

Dying with an unfired gun doesn't sound too desirable to me when you consider the fact that some day, somebody's going to shoot it. Wouldn't you rather that person be you?

I just remembered this picture. And I forgot to post the drawing I did (not completely done yet) of my Dad's gun in here. What a good thread about 66's.
