MY Sigma 9VE update

I find that guns are like beers. There are a few flavors that each person likes. There are a few flavores each person doesnt like.

Personally, I dont like Glocks. I do like every gun Ive purchased. One of them is a Sigma 40VE.

bandit46, what cast bullet load are you using with such success in your S9VE? I am currently working up cast bullet loads for mine and I am interested.

Today was my first day in a long, long time not carrying my 9VE. The guide rod broke on Saturday so I shipped it off to Texas today for a new guide rod and some trigger work.
Though I love my SP-101, it's just not the same as carrying my Sigma.

How many rounds are were through your sigma before the Guide rod broke?

I would like to like a sigma but I still think the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) is HIGHER than a glock.

I don't understand the parts breakage...

4500 rounds and a stiker failure? My oldest glock is 20 years old and still going strong with only replacing the sights and a guide rod ONLY because I had never replaced a spring on the gun and it seemed like I should do something for it. It is a range gun, not a carry gun and has been used for IDPA and othe local self-defense matches and plinking.

Not sure what you are looking for. Parts break for various reasons. Doesn't mean that every gun with that part on it will experience the same failure at the same point. I have close to 5500 rounds through one of my Sigma's and I've never had to replace anything on it. In fact, it still looks basically new inside as it doesn't even show much wear.

The front sight on my brother's Glock 23 simply fell off when it was about two months old. He didn't bang it into something, he didn't abuse it, and he didn't monkey around with it. It just fell off because it was defective. Compared to my Sigma, the "MTBF" is WAY higher. Now, do you think that is a fair assumption to make on my part? Can we fairly conclude from this that Glocks are not to be trusted?

Several thousand round have gone down range from my Sigma. The guide rod failure was right where the rod itself goes into the end cap, and looks like a random failure.
I have worked on and repaired machinery for the last 39 years, and long ago learned that parts, new and old, can fail.

I'm a newbie to tis forum, But i'm no newbie too firearms & I have a sigma going on 8 yrs 9c many rounds down range & good accratecy & one of the BEST if not the BEST service arround

I shoot 180 grain lead truncated cone bullets through my Sw40VE with great results. The bullets are from Mid-States.

3.3 grains of Clays gives a nice soft recoil and superb accuracy. Clays in very clean burning also so clean-up is a breeze. I've had no leading issues with this combination however I do put a coating of Lee Liquid Alox on all my cast bullets.

Clays can get un-predictable at higher pressures from what I've read. I use it for target/range loads only. If I want a hotter round I use Universal or BlueDot.

All the Best,
D. White

Don't know much about Sigmas other than wwhat I've read here, but this morning's newspaper had an advertisement from Ginder Mountain offering them for $399.95 with a LaserLyte included, in both 9mm and .40. I seldom see any bargains at Ginder, so I don't know if that's a good price or not.

I love my Sigma, although I have not shot it as much as I would like!
What problems or complaints do people have?

Very minor complaints that won't interfere with your shooting pleasure.

I bought a 9VE back when the prices were sane and ammo available for $239. after the rebate. It's a great pistol and my every day carry. I have found that if I "pull" the trigger instead of "squeeezzze" it my accuracy is much improved. Works for me.

I bought a early 9V back when they came out and use it for daily carry. I've shot thousands of rounds through it and have had no problems. The trigger smoothed out alot over the years and I love it. My wife likes to shoot it as well.

Mainly trigger pull, but if the trigger pull is offensive S&W will fix it for free.

Both Gander and Cabela's had Sigmas less the lasersite on sale a month or so ago for $349. Considering almost all the other gun stores in my area sell Sigmas for $399, that's not a bad price.
I've noticed that the shelves are less bare these days, so maybe we'll see more discounts and sales this summer.

Just curious about something, owning neither the Sigma nor the M&P: What's the difference between the M&P 9mm and the Sigma 9mm, or perhaps more bluntly, why would one purchase a M&P 9mm when the Sigma 9mm can be had for significantly less money? I have allegiance to neither firearm, but I have to admit, I hear them calling out to me to purchase one.
