My wife doesn't want her CC permit, but I think she almost has to get it.

Strato,
Does that mean if you DO have a CWP you can pick up a flashlight?
I have been given different answers to the same question depending on the location I was in Florida.

He told me as long as I was carrying in a concealed manner with a permit I should be ok with a light but he also said another officer may have a different interpretation of the law.

Tell your wife the same thing I told mine, @ 30m years ago.

IF IT hits the fan, and WE are together, you must do your 50 %.

I will not risk my life for a NON DOER. You must be able to hold your own...

IF IT, hits the fan, and you are alone, and you are not "GUN Ready", then you will be Raped repeatedly, cut up, burnt with cigarrettes, and basically misussed and abussed. It is your choice...

I have NO SYMPATHY FOR PEOPLE that do not have a Carry permint, have not trained with their handgun, and do not carry their handgun 100% of the time.

Well, I have a longer way to go with my wife than you do. They have to be ready. Yiogo

We always advise that a spouse or significant other become licensed also, weather they plan to actually carry or not. It helps with a firearm being in the car that they did not know of and also better firearm transportation laws for licensed folks.

Be sure your children understand the laws and requirements. Ohio ties your license to your auto registrations and a LEO'S computer will light up with LICENSED TO CARRY INFO. We are a MUST NOTIFY STATE.

Some excellent points made here and I actually had to go reread the dang law to clarify in my mind....

Everyone who knows all the laws regarding weapons in their state please stand up.

I bet everyone is still sitting. :D

Then they change the law more than I change my underwear. And I have pretty good hygiene, not perfect but okay....

When WI passed the CC law, another law went into effect that handguns may be loaded in a vehicle without a permit as long as the gun is NOT concealed. So if it is tucked in something or in a glove box or under a jacket it is concealed and you must have a permit.

I have a gun in my truck dash cubby hole and just the grip is showing.... Concealed or not? Everyone who stood up can answer that one. :D

So I'm continuing with her permit. I just asked the DNR to make her hunter's safety certificate available for printing online. I have no idea where any of her military records are. We were young and back then that stuff didn't matter much! There's probably someone in the Pentagon we could write to to retrieve old records....

Oh, in WI we can own a zillion guns, maybe more, and don't need any permits so if I were to be found dead with a beautiful blonde on my bed (which is how I would prefer to be found otherwise she would slowly torture me until I was dead) she could take possession of all my guns no questions asked.

I don't know if license plates are tied to CC permits here.... can anyone standing answer that? :p

Well, mom does occasionally carry, but the main reason she got hers was so if we were out, and something happened, she could legally take possession of mine. That way I don't have to worry about an outsider getting ahold of it.

In Missouri, she could have legally taken possession of it without the CCW endorsement. It's just that she wouldn't have been able to lawfully conceal it on her person. There is no statutory requirement that a person have a CCW endorsement in order to possess/transfer/loan/lease/buy/sell a handgun in Missouri.

That's a very logical progression, I think. And if you present it to her logically, I'm sure she would be in agreement. I sure wouldn't want to be stopped with a truck full of guns (I exagerate) and not have a permit!

Good luck,

Irish

My wife was very eager to get her CCW three years ago. Now she is partially disabled and it is a great comfort for her. Fight or flight is no longer optional for her. This can happen to anyone. I strongly recommend getting a permit when physically fit because you just never know. Besides, two armed people properly trained is a formidable defense.

Yes, I knew that. But I'm one of those deep thinkers:rolleyes: and I didn't want her to have to stand there with a gun. Putting it in her purse or waistband would put her in violation of the law. It just seemed reasonable to go that route so no dark areas or over zealous emergency personel would bring grief.

I understand and I think that is certainly reasonable. I was just trying to provide some clarification for anyone who may have read your post and got the impression that a CCW endorsement was required in order to possess a handgun in Missouri.

Oh no problem. I rely on folks like you to keep me on my toes.

While I can't find it to reference for you I believe there is case law in Wi that says anything BELOW window level is concealed. That would make anything BELOW sitting on the top of the dash concealed. Doesn't mean an LEO will call it that way but I believe there is case law supporting that interpretation.

In Texas you can have a handgun in your car. If not licensed to carry it must be off your person and stowed out of sight. State law says that your auto is an extension of your home.

My wife has had her CCW for 2 years and never carried once.

The thing is, almost every time she goes out alone she has an incident with some shady creep. Today it was an aggressive panhandler at the grocery store, yesterday it was 5 young guys drunk in the middle of the day in a 4WD mud truck. Made rude comments to her at a red light, then cut her off, spun their wheels and covered her car with mud.

Last week it was a gangbanger type sizing her up at the gas station.

I guess she thinks the CCW card is a magic talisman.

If she doesn't want a permit, why not simply take the gun out of the truck when she's driving it?

I know it seems like a 'Why didn't I think of that??? ' type question... but,

She grabbed the truck and off she went. Not thinking there was a gun in the cubby. Now she can look, but what about the gun under the seat? I have guns all over the place, and I leave them in my truck very often. I may have one behind the back of the seat if I went to the range earlier, or if I'm going there soon again.

So while yes, I could take my guns out every time I leave the truck and then put them back in every time I get in, it's just much less of a hassle making sure she is legal to have a concealed weapon in case one turns up.

We live in the sticks, it's not like we are leaving guns in a car parked on the streets of New York. I have guns in the garage, guns in the shed, guns in the truck, a gun on me, a gun on my desk, a gun in the nightstand, a gun in the kitchen.... What am I scared of????

Nothing! :D

By the way, she is now telling some of our friends she is getting her permit... And the way she tells it I can see she is excited about it. She may not carry, but I have my eye on a SWEET 642 sitting at the local farm store that would fit right into a Mika holster and go just anywhere she wanted.... ;)

UPDATE

My wife's CCP just came in the mail Saturday. Her number is a little shy of 80,000.

I can tell she was excited, of course she said she will NOT be carrying a gun, but I believe she'll be happy to put a .380 in the glovebox and I'll pick her up a 642 to try out. Hopefully she will stick one in her purse.

It's a big change of mind to begin carrying a gun. It may take some time, but I think she will warm up to the idea.

Question: Do you have to have a permit if you have firearms in your vehicle?

If so, you guys ought to move to Louisiana. Now I feel good about our gun laws.

We can carry openly and so can anyone visiting in the state.
We can have guns in a vehicle without having to have a permit and so can anyone visiting in the state. It would be difficult to find a car in Louisiana that does not have at least one gun inside and those guns are going to be loaded.

If one carries concealed with a permit and prints or accidentally shows, there is no problem.

No papers are required to purchase guns in Louisiana. You see a gun in a store you like, just hand the money over, fill out the Federal form and walk out with your gun.

In WI the law states that any firearm must me unloaded and cased in an auto.
the DNR has made a fortune off of hunters who had simply laid a rifle on a tail gate while getting the case.
it would seem easy to comply to the law. just clear and case... till you try to do that in a parking lot where people can see you brandishing a weapon.
CCW gives an exception to this long standing monument to legislative stupidity thus is worth having even if you dont carry and have occasion to handle arms in other capacities.

WI is not a bad place to buy guns. there are better states though. long arms its the fed form and same day possession. handguns have a wait period, Im not sure if CCW mitigates this in WI or not .. its no longer my problem.

That's not the law anymore...

If I do not have a CCW license how do I transport weapons in a vehicle?

A. Handguns

The law now allows a person to do the following without a CCW permit:

* place, possess, or transport a handgun in a vehicle without being unloaded or encased. Wis. Stats. § 167.31(2)(b).
* load a handgun in a vehicle. Wis. Stats. § 167.31(2)(c).
* operate an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with a handgun in the operator's possession. Wis. Stat. § 23.33(3)(a).
*place, possess, or transport a handgun in or on a motorboat with the motor running without being unloaded or encased. Wis. Stats. § 167.31(2)(a), (b),
(c). place, possess, or transport a handgun in or on a noncommercial aircraft.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Persons who do not have a CCW license may still not carry weapons concealed. In a vehicle this means that the firearm cannot be hidden or concealed and within reach.

So she could posses a loaded weapon as long as it is not concealed..... The legal definition of concealed is what I was worried about. ;)
