Am in need of a medium priced owb holster for Mod. 36. I recently purchased one from Steelhide off eBay. It’s well constructed, but it doesn’t hug my side very well and retention is not great. I could send it back, but they were very accommodating in making it to my specs and they allowed me to cancel a previous order and reorder. So I’m still looking for one that conforms to my waist and doesn’t contort my belt in the $60 range. Suggestions? Thanks.

Ah! The Chief's Special. I had one, but in a moment of insanity I sold it
along with the holsters. Here are a few that I particularly liked.
Left to right:
My Chief's special with matching grips and knife.
An RSS (Revolver Super Speed) by Ken Null, would be my
first choice.

You might take a look on ebay and other holster places for
the following:
Special Agent by Lawrence
Stamped and laced by Eubanks
Crossdraw by Lewis
Bucheimer R1025

For a good carry holster in that price range I highly recommend DeSantis Speed Scabbard. Can be had with or without thumbsnap. (65 shown with thumbsnap) and don’t forget a proper gun belt.

Sorry about photo orientation- they are correctly oriented when I upload from iPad. No one has been able to suggest how to fix.

I second the vote for 1791 gunleather. I have a pancake from them I use with my 642. It pulls it nice and tight to my side for good concealment under an untucked shirt, holds the gun well and seems really well made, especially for the cost. Nice heavy thick leather and good stitching. I got it on Amazon.

I bought one off EBay from Braids Holsters. These are form fit for two-inch barrel J-Frame .38. The photo is the holster with my Model 638 in it. Fits snug to the body and retains the revolver securely. Price was about $45.

Why not the real thing for the real gun

The real thing for the real gun. My EDC for years and years. No longer carry M36, M60, or M637, but when I did it was in genuine Smith & Wesson leather. Made in Lillington NC many moon ago, but just great on a stiff leather gunbelt. Tight to body, (even with my jelly roll), thumb break, little printing, comfortable at my EDC position 3:30-4 o'clock, right side. Open toe fits 2" or 3".

Shown with my M36 no dash, and M36-1 (3") with RB to SB stocks.

EDC now is S&W 9mm 2.0 Compact in SafariLand Kydex so no need for the old S&W leather anymore.

PM me if you'd like further details.

Is that the RVH1? Is it contoured to allow my belt to pass thru with making a double S?

Are you using a dress belt or a gun belt?

A belt that is "contorting" when you're wearing a gun and holster may be telling you it's too tired for the task.

Your price point is a problem.

I'd look for a quality gun belt and spend some time boning the leather to my gun to create better retention. The holster may surprise you after a month wearing it most of the day.

I wear a casual 1 1/2” reversible belt. I also CC a P365 in a Concealment Solutions kydex holster that has the quick clips. Love the holster because it’s contoured to allow my belt to maintain a smooth arc around my waist. I get what you’re saying, I could benefit from a couple of black and brown CC belts. I just haven’t brought myself to the point of paying in excess of $150 for two belts. If I can find the right shaped holster, my choice of belts won’t matter much.

There are hundreds and hundreds of good holsters out there. The best is Kramer's Horsehide OWB Scabbard, IMHO.

When it comes to concealed carry I like strong, very lightweight, excellent retention but with an excellent draw, longevity and the best quality (and not Kydex). I do NOT want any devises such as snaps, straps, screws, springs, velcro, etc to complicate my carry rig. Kramer's Horsehide holsters, belts & pouches fits the bill for me - every time! All custom made to your order, but worth every penny you spend.

NOTE: I have absolutely no affiliation with Kramer Leather at all. I am just a 100% satisfied customer for many many years!

Yes, that's the exact one I use. It's got a good contour that keeps the belt pretty flat going through the loops, I think.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate all your responses. The 1791 RVH-1 in stealth black it is. Just under $60 shipped from Amazon. Free return if I don’t like it, but certainly looks like it fits most of my criteria.

Here’s a bikini holster from sunny Miami.
