Thanks to attending the SWCA Symposium, I now own a 1076 NS that came in a box with a label...where my confusion begins.

According to the Standard Catalog, product code 105901 is an FBI purchase product code.;) What does **SPECIAL** mean? Was it originally part of an FBI purchase but returned to S&W? Will a letter tell me if it was?

It is capable of firing without a magazine and it says so on the slide. The slide has no hole cut in the slide for a Firing Pin Safety Lever Plunger and there is no Firing Pin Safety Lever.

I understood the first digit was the year it was shipped/made and the following 3 digits was the Julian date. Reading the label would have it shipped/made in 1994 but on the 726(?) day of 1994. Standard catalog indicates this model was produced 1990-1993.

I'm sure S&W had a reason for printing this label and I could use some help interpreting it. Should I letter it? Could the "007" mean this is a "Bond" gun?

Nice find! :)

On labels that are coded **Special** in the features section the YJJJ date decoding often goes out the window.

Some have said it refers to a project or contract code instead of a date, which is often obviously impossible number combinations.

Some pistol boxes have "003" or "004" where yours says "007" & it often refers to a Rev. level. No idea if this applies to yours or how many revisions the 1076 had.

Special means it is different from regular production, like an FBI order, and in this case, no magazine disconnect (too). The Spec Ord number is an order number and not a Julian date. Does it have palm swell grips?

I think (hope) you have the two plungers mixed up. The magazine disconnect plunger is on the left side of the slide (and plastic) and the firing pin safety is on the right (and metal).
Since there's no manual safety body with hammer block, it could be very dangerous to decock without a hammer block or firing pin safety.

My bad...

You're right...it was late last night when I posted. No plastic magazine disconnect plunger or machined hole.
