I just picked up a 45acp 25-2. Fun Fun Fun.

Bought a MoonClipTool and a bunch of full moon clips.

I see that Safariland makes these cool trays that hold the ammo in full moon clips or speed loaders but they don't have it for 45acp.

Who does?

Where can I get some? Wood? Plastic?

Interesting. I've never seen these before.
HKS has some individual plastic holders, and you just screw them to a some scrap wood.
I can't help you with a similar thing for the rebated rim or rimless cartridges however.

Sir, as I understand it, the pictured trays were primarily intended to make it faster/easier to refill a bunch of speed loaders at once: Drop the rounds in the holes, set the speed loaders on top, lock 'em down, and off to the races you go.

Because moon clips load differently (rounds come in from the side rather than the front), such a tray would not help with refilling them. Probably that's why you're having trouble finding one.

I can see where a tray like that might be handy for carrying loaded clips and keeping them orderly, though.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Ron,
That's exactly why I want one, I've found that preloading them at home and then 'tossing" them in a bag is damaging the clips, thought it would be a simple idea to load and transport. Can't be that I'm inventing the wheel, someone had to have this idea before and made it up.

Don't know of anyone that makes them for 45 moon clips. The ones shown are used primarily in PPC competition where a course of fire involves reloads from the belt and a course can consist of up to 150 shots. By staging 6 at a time in the shown trays, all one needs to do is drop an empty speed loader on and lock it down. Done in seconds while moving to the next stage of fire.

There was a thread a while back from a guy who built his own out of wood and dowels with a central handle, designed to be contained in a 50 caliber ammo can; the loaded moon clips were stacked on top of each other over a vertical dowel in base piece. I'll get around to making one of those for myself . . . .

A competition "mooning" tool that seats 6 rounds at one time is what you're looking for, I'd say; then use your imagination for a holding/staging tray. Good luck.

EDIT/IDEA -

if you know someone with a drill press, make a template for the shell positions from a moon clip out of wood or aluminum and then make your own tray by spotting the positions with the template and drilling into a wood base to a suitable depth with a bit of sufficient size. One could make it as fancy or as plain as needed or your skills allowed.

Thanks, but those are 5 shot, 25-2 is a 6. But I did call them and they stated they were thinking of doing it and would call me if they did...

Still looking...

Mike

In you first post you show a picture of a 6-shot from 5STAR. Then in the above post you say they are thinking about it. What am I missing here?

Update with photos

Been working with 5Star since I first asked this awhile back. Just got these prototypes today and they work great! The stock number will be N6 and will run around $27.50. I can put this post to rest!

Late to the party, but why couldn't you make a tray out of plywood with legs and holes to do the same thing. Make the thing with ther proper size drill and buy using 1" thick wood make the holes shollow enough to hold you moon clips. It might take a couple of times to get exactly what you want, but you could make it as big as you wanted.

I don't believe it is as simple as you would first think.

I had sketched out a carrier that used pegs to hold clips 3 deep for range transport. Then, one day in WallyWorld, I happened on a snap-cover plastic box that holds 30 clips, stacked 2-deep. It's worked well for me.

How about a pic or two? I could use a box like that.
