Just got my 15-22 today, can't wait to get it to the range. My question, the gun shop set me up with a brick of Remington Thunderbolts..... Upon getting home and reading the manual, it says they do not recommend them. Should I take them back? If so, what is the best most reliable loads to use? .... Thanks in advance and I'm proud to be in the family....

Shoot them. The manual list was written several years ago and is essentially useless today. Much of the ammo on the market today isn't even mentioned, one way or another. Buy and shoot whatever you can get your hands on.

The 15-22 tends to eat up most. 22LR ammo with few exceptions. That said, Smith And Wesson does have their list of recommended and not recommended ammo. Best to try different types and make your own judgment. Personally, I use CCI and have never had any issues while I have also experimented with others such as Armscore, Federal and such. So far my 15-22 eats everything I offer it although I sick with the recommended stuff.

Stop what you are doing and send them to me to properly dispose of immediately :D Like others have said, take them out and shoot them, enjoy the rifle and welcome to the forum.

Cci stingers are a no no. The cases are abit longer.
Feel free to shot them but I wont.

While some here are recommending you shoot them, I'd advise against it. First time I shot rem thunderbolts I had feeding issues and then a mag later a rim blew and took my ejector with it. First time and last time. It has eaten every other type of ammo though. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I'd say use them, only issues I've seen with them is some dodgy quality (a surprising number of dings and broken bullets) and failures feeding (also a surprising number...), never harmed a rifle but just be wary.

I use CCI Standards and never had an issue, they will take virtually anything so I haven't bothered using much high velocity... So long as it's got enough power to cycle go with it.

If you don't feel confident shooting them, take the brick back to the dealer with the manual and ask if he would trade you for an "approved" brand. That being said, I've run them and they cycle just fine. Accuracy is so so... good enough for popping tin cans off of a fence post.

I picked up a brick of 500 of these a while back. Shot them all over a couple of days.

Some of the dirtiest .22 I have had so far.

Biggest thing I noticed was the inconsistently in charge from round to round. Some were barely felt other had a noticeable difference with felt recoil.

Not the most consistent round I have had but good enough for chasing a tennis ball around a field.

Rob.

If I was hesitant to shoot them, the first thing I'd do is find some other ammo. You may find that if you return them you'll have nothing. If you shoot them, I think what you'll find is that there are better alternatives. The trouble is acquiring those alternatives. Thunderbolts tend to be one of the least expensive brands out there and they also tend to be some of the more available. I got some and then read all the bad reviews so I gave them away - but I had other alternatives at the time.

Golden bullets will cycle 80% of the time for me. Winchester, federal and cci is my standard.

During these times, I usually shoot what I can find and I usually find Remington Golden Bullets. According to the manual, RGB is definitely not recommended. They shoot fine, just got to pay attention while shooting.

I shoot Thunderbolts in my .22 Compact pistol. They are dirty, and after 200+ rounds, you'll find leading in the barrel. But they do go bang and are generally affordable.

There are better rounds out there, but even I've bought bricks when nothing else was available.

Remington 22 ammo

I shoot a lot of 22 ammo. CCI is one of the best for the money as is Federal. Remington used to be terrible because of lack of quality control in the priming department. I notice that lately the QC is a lot better with Remington 22's. I have been shooting them without problems, even out of my model 15.

Absolutely can not be used in the performance center version. but in the regular version which I have I've fired a couple hundred of them with no issues at all, except they've got some extra kick which puts a smile on my face.
