I finally grabbed one. Its a 4 inch barrel, full size grip, 10 round mag capacity. Took it out of the box, ran 100 rounds of WWB 230 gr FMJ, 100 rounds Fed Am Eagle 230 gr fmj and 2 boxes of 230 gr speerGold Dots.

Sub one inch groups at 10 yards, no malfunctions, easy to shoot with the full size grip. Didn't have time to do anything more long distance.

After about a thousand rounds i will drive it up to Smith, have them give it the Pro Series trigger job and put night sights on it.

In addition to really enjoying this pistol, and carrying it with ease, i had a nagging question: Why would i ever need to own a 1911 again??

I am asking myself the same question as I sit here waiting for Colt to send my two 1911s back to me in reliable condition. I'm seriously thinking about getting a M&P 45C.

Me I just like guns and enjoy owning and shooting many different types and styles. As to the 1911 I own a S&W 1911 and love it and have never had any problems w/ it. And the types of guns I buy are cheaper than cars and motorcycles to purchase and the wife won't yell @ me as much.

O2B

I too love my M&P 45 but, there's something addictive about my Colt Combat Commander's crisp single action trigger pull and the way that gun fits my hand that will have me keeping it forever. :)

:D I agree with O2BShooting. I have several handguns and enjoy shooting them. I may have too many. I bought a M&P 45 4.5" in April 2010. I was so impressed I got a M&P 9 Pro 5" to compete in USPSA Production class. ;) I've been shooting the 9mm and haven't shot the 45 much. Doesn't seem fair. Something like less than 500 rounds for the 45 but close to 3000 rounds for the 9mm. :) Plus, my 1911 Kimber has been shot only a couple of hundred rounds this year. I love my 1911. And my 625 S&W revolver shot less than that. (Not much less, that one is just too much fun :D ) And the S&W 686's not at all in 2010. :( Help, I need more range time. ;)

1911s for fun.
M&P for carry.
I carried 1911s for 17 years then went to the SW99 compact .40 and never looked back. Right now I dig the M&P compact .45.

You say you carry it, what holster do you use?

While I like my full size MP 45 it's still not a 1911 in feel nor trigger.
Mine's still stock - will probably do the Apex - but for local IDPA it's fine.

Biggest reason I shoot it is that the tapered mag loads a little faster than my 1911, and the recoil is slightly less - of course I move at the speed of a running turtle with either.
I continue to carry a Springer LW Operator via IWB holster.

The M&P .40 and .45 have the same slide dimensions except for length. I mic'ed my full size .40, compact .40 and compact .45 to confirm this.
I have a Comp-Tac Gladiator OWB holster that I bought for the full size .40. I use all 3 weapons and that single holster for IPSC. Pretty cool, huh?

Oh wow! That's great news, because I have been looking up holsters if I were to choose the .45 and they all say "9mm/.40", so that's good to know that any will fit it, I don't know why they don't just say that in the ad for the holster, but oh well, thanks for the info
