New Owner, Quiet that action!

Hey, the OP seemed to want an engineering project so I tossed him one! His ambitions may not make sense to everyone but without his kind of thinking we would still be using slow-matches to ignite our charge (those wheel-locks are so overrated!).

Thank you for the boost, I agree and have always had the drive to figure things out, or build things. It's fun to me.

As for my neighbor their the type that's older 70s, 80s, well off/county club type and ........liberal  !

Anyway, my 15-22 does have that little plug that goes in the end of the tube. I figured it was for storage, Mine is empty but I could see how it would resonate when the gun cycles.

Strange ...

We have several 15-22 owners at our range and all of them have the same open-ended tube. There has been some discussion among us about using it for storage, but no one has come up with a way to close the tube except a rubber plug.

Rubber plug or... good old black RTV can be used to make a plug :)

Fill the hole with RTV (about 1/2" to 3/4" depth or so) and let it sit overnight with the gun pointed up and the tube covered over with say some cellophane and a rubber band. It will take the exact shape and form of the tube and will be pretty easy to peel out BUT is firm enough to take shape and make an exact fitting plug and RTV is firm enough in it's wet state to not just leak and spread all over. Once the plug is dry or made, you could modify it further with a little finger hole, string loop or tab to make pulling out easy.

I have a brand new MOE, I have yet to check mine and see what it has (or does not have).

Since all the 15-22's here are AWB (031) models, it will be interesting to see if there's a plug in my Georgia grandson's 15-22 (033) when he opens it Christmas.

I changed the stock on mine today (033) and noticed the plug for the 1st time. It has the script S&W emblem embossed in it.

My 035 does not have a plug oddly. Rather surprised given the 035 is a higher up model than the 033.

Anyone have a picture of this plug?

Here's mine. 033

I wonder what the logic is on why some got this plug - clearly made for this exact application - and some did not. I wonder if on the MOE the Magpul stock in some way interferes with that tab? I highly doubt that so more likely it is not a models thing, but a lazy employee thing... putting it on if they had them readily available and blowing it off if they did not.

Well mine just fell out so maybe they're not tight enough and fall out during handling or testing?

Mine is very tight. Can't pull it out just by the tab alone. Have to pull and then get a purchase on the rim to extract it. I keep about 30 ft of thin paracord in my tube. ;)
