New Snake Gun - But Not What I Expected..

What about the "big boy", Anaconda?
Larry

Well I thought about one and recently have renewed my interest in 44 (special). I'm an old guy and only shoot mild loads due to arthritis in my hand and wrist and 44 special loads in a heavy frame are easy to shoot. I did seriously look at one but have a M29-2 4" nickel that my dad gave me 35 years ago. I don't think he ever fired it but I figured it was time to enjoy what he never got a chance to. The Anaconda is a gorgeous gun but so is the M29 that's currently scratching my itch. I won't say never but for now I'm really enjoying my 29.

A great post to introduce a great thread! My LGS is still awaiting a 3" Python, but it's mine on arrival. Helps that my check is the only one they accept...;) I even forgive that telegraph-pole 3" barrel and the target grips. Poster ladder13 feels my pain...

Lastly poster viperMD boasts about not having snakes on his property in the U.P. of Michigan, yet you never hear him boast about having to drive 3 hours each way to pick up a pizza...

I thank everyone above for this cool thread.

It is only 3 hrs each way during blizzards, normally only an hour during summer ( July & August ). Be Safe,

I retired last year after 55 years of owning my business and my wife told me to buy the new 4.25" my dealer had so I did. Got it new at a discount and just fell in love with it. Then the fever struck and I bought a new 6" and then a new 3". I love them! Then a new Cobra 2", 3" King Cobra and 4.25" King Cobra Target. What a great wife!

I was considering the King Cobra 22 also but it just didn't look right to me. Something is off. Anyway I have a great 617 that shoots and looks great so I'm going to pass on the new KC22.

I had a blue 6" I bought new in the late 70's or early 80's. Can't remember the date but foolishly sold it when prices went out of sight. I regretted that but feel the new Pythons are everything the originals are and more. After shooting quite a few rounds through them now I'd take a new one any day over on original.

Hope you enjoy your new toy!

My guess would be that elongated trigger guard.

In the mid 90's I policed in Montgomery, AL and that is the home of Gulf States Distributors. They were the premier Beretta and Sig and Glock LE distributor back then in the South. I walked in one day and there was a folding table with a "pyramid" of 4 inch Pythons for sale for .....$400 each! Yep, GSD had won the FLA Highway Patrol bid to replace the Pythons with Beretta 96's and had hundreds of Python trade ins to sell. They stacked them in layers on the table and replaced them as they sold. I though to myself "boy! A Python for $400". I picked one up and dry fired it and several others double and single action. I asked for some gun oil to lube them up with. Compared to a K-frame, the DA pull was PITIFUL! Single action was a joke. On every single gun. I learned later on in my career about the V-spring lock work and how Snake Guns triggers were designed to "stack" near the end of the trigger stroke with the extra smaller v-spring and that the reason that Smiths RULED the PPC matches was because of the god awful trigger pulls Colts had. There were very few smithy's who could tune a Python to anything near near a tuned Smith action though. We had some officers that had a Python barrel fitted to a K-frame. Supposedly since the Python barrels were "choke bored" they were more accurate than a Smith barrels but I think it was just officers wanting to be stylish. They called the hybirds "Smolt's" and "Smythons". They did look cool. I wish I had bought one for pure financial interest but as a shooter with small hands and short fingers and in all brutal honesty, these expensive guns deserved better trigger actions from the factory.

That is a great wife!!! Does she have a sister? Asking for a friend.

I think Ralph7 and .38SuperMan may both be right. The new .22 KC looks kind of like a Python or old Diamondback, but the trigger guard and rib style kind of throw it's clean lines off.

Got my snake (a shooter 4 inch 1961 Python) about 5 years back and it gets along just fine with my smiths

A 3" already on the used shelf? Wow! I have a Wilson rear sight (square notch) on order. It showed up as back ordered, so I guess I have a wait.

The U-notch is supposedly in stock.

As to the gun, I know a guy who bought it because reasons. But both he and his bride prefer the lighter weight of the King Cobra, so he sent it on down the road.

Yeah, I did notice that the U notch was available. I was tempted, but everything else I own has a square notch rear sight so I decided to keep it consistent. It may be coming quicker than I expected though. I got an email notice that I have a Fedex package on the way from Arkansas. Fingers crossed!

I'm glad Colt is back to their roots. I think CZ will do good things for them going forward. The new wheelies are darn fine pieces.

The more I hear about CZ, the more impressed with them I get. They seem to be striving to be a first class firearm company, not a peddler of cheap junk.

I don't own any CZ branded firearms, but their .22 bolt action rifles have caught my eye.
