New tire$

I heard tires were up there with diamond rings, etc., but today I really found out. Oil change is due so I also ordered 2 new tires for the front since they're 2 1/2 years old and I need all the help I can get for upcoming winter. This '20 Malibu is far from the 4x4s and AWDs that I had as far as snow traction.
Anyhow, I stopped today to make sure they'll have the tires this Wed. Total for two tires & all that goes with the installation is gonna be $727.00. Plus the oil change.
Merry Christmas to me!! I'm glad I'm pretty much done buying gifts that nobody appreciates! (Sarah will like the little .38 Special I got her, though. A lightweight DAO, I think it's an M&P 38.)
Did they cut down all the rubber trees while deforesting South America?
At 2 1/2 years old it's getting close to when I start looking for a new car, but not now on this fixed retirement income!! Honestly, I never thought I was gonna live this long or I would've kept the Impala SS!

What tires are those? I don't know if you have an exotic variant of the Malibu that takes special boots, but cursory web search shows tires starting at $80 each.

Looked up a base model 2020 Malibu on Tire Rack's website. The most expensive tires were $180 each, delivered to central PA.

I bought 4 Bridgestone Duellers for my truck for $900 out the door. Most I've ever paid for 4 tires. I didn't ask about an oil change.

I just bought 4 Cooper Evolution winter tires for my 2007 Town Town car.
they look like awesome winter tires.
They were about $160 each plus I paid $120 to have them mounted and balanced.
So it looks like about $720 for the set mounted, balance and on the car.
That's about what I was expecting to pay for nice winter tires.

I'm looking forward to doing some traveling on the bad snowy winter days.

Why would you need tires after 2-1/2 years?
Are you driving 20/k per year. Tires should get you 60/K+ miles-depending on the brand and your driving habits.
You are in PA--Do you have a Jack Williams Tire Center near you. I found them to have the best deals and specials on tires without sales pressure.

Wow just wow , I just purchased 4 General G-max 215/55R17 performance radials from Amazon for $340.48 , had them delivered to my local Mavis tire where they charged me $16.99 each for the install , so basically a little over $400 for all 4 mounted and balanced. You need to shop around.

Relatively heavy, front wheel drive car on OEM as supplied rubber. Oh yeah, I believe it. Most manufacturers are putting nasty rubber on new cars these days.

Looks like a bad move to me (sorry). Tires need to be rotated. Then they all wear out at the same time. Having different tire tread on different axles can make the car squirrely. Been there done that - never buy 2 tires at a time.

Also sorry to say that IMHO GM (chevy) puts decent oem tires on their cars. Should be 45,000 miles at least, as long as they are rotated.

Regardless, $720 is highway robbery. A few months ago I replaced the 4 tires on my Lincoln. 20 inchers, low profile and the most expensive you can find. I only paid $800, and they were premium Goodyears.

We have a Dunn tire in our neighborhood. Best around. I certainly would do some shopping if the price were not competitive.

When I got my daughters their first cars I made sure they did not have raised white letter tires as after a few months of tilting against curbs they looked like Sanskrit.

If wear is your primary concern, then certainly GM used to put "decent" tires on their cars. The '96 Firebird I bought on arrival here had Goodyear G/A tires. They never wore out, but I quickly learned that "G/A" stood for "grip absent". No traction, iffy braking, and very so-so lateral grip were features of those boots.

This afternoon, I went to my local Mr. Tire store and had them install the 4 Vredestein Wintrac Pro winter tires, size 225/45-17, that I bought from Tire Rack and had shipped to Mr. Tire. Total price for all 4 tires was $685.24 shipped, and mounting, balancing, and installation was about another $100.

I'd find another shop.
I knew a guy that managed a Firestone Tire Center at a local mall.
I forget the exact number but I believe the rent was over $6K a month, plus all the additional $$$. How many sets of tires at their markup do they have to
make their overhead.
I'd look a smaller reputable shop.
