New tire$

This afternoon, I went to my local Mr. Tire store and had them install the 4 Vredestein Wintrac Pro winter tires, size 225/45-17, that I bought from Tire Rack and had shipped to Mr. Tire. Total price for all 4 tires was $685.24 shipped, and mounting, balancing, and installation was about another $100.

I haven't heard that name in years. I thought they stopped importing them. Other than Michelin, Vredestein are the best tires made. I used to put them on my cars in the 70's & 80's

I've been using seasonal high-performance tires for years, Michelin Pilot Super Sports (or whatever they're called now) in the summer, and various other brands in the winter. I've had Dunlops and Pirellis, and decided to give Vredesteins a try this season, largely because they were rated as highly as competing brands, but at a much lower price.

I drove into work today and noticed immediately how quiet they are. They handle well...good steering feedback and responsiveness. Of course, the real test will be when we get snow or some other winter precipitation, but as I said, the ratings are good.

One surprise: Though Vredestein is a Dutch brand, these tires have "Made in Hungary" embossed on the sidewalls...

I paid that much for a set of Michelin's from Discount tire for my wife's Chrysler 300.
Mounted, balanced and road hazard...

I recently bought a set of 4 Pirelli tires for my Wife's Buick LaCrosse. They cost me about $930 including mounting and balancing. Yes - they are very expensive these days but I believe the Pirelli's are even better than Michelin's and were a little less money too. I bought them from Tire Rack and the tires came with a 2 year road hazard warranty. I have used the warranty two times so far on my Yukon which has Pirelli's from Tire Rack on it as well. Unfortunately I have had two nails in two tires ( a few months apart) on the sidewalls and they could not be repaired due to the location of the nails. Tire Rack send me two brand new tires to match and reimbursed me the whole amount. Can't beat that with a stick!

Everything related to the job is an extra. $60 to balance 2 tires! I called another tire shop and got a better (much better) price, plus there's a real good gun shop I can walk over to while I wait. I'll be sure to pack the credit cards!

I shop tires on line at Walmart. really huge selection and I have never been able to beat the price. I have them delivered to the local store and have found I can do that and usually the tires are cheaper than going to the store and having them order the same tire!! Never had an issue with their mounting, sometimes I got it done free but those days are probably past

I always look online at Discount Tire first (who has pretty good prices) and see what something I like costs there, then I type in my tire size on google and see who is running some great deals. Just bought a set of Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain tires for my 4 door Ram from Walmart online for about $150 less than Discount Tire prices. My Super Walmart installed them while I grocery and ammo shopped.

If you google reviews of retread tires vs. new, and compare pros vs. cons the ONLY pro is wayyyy cheaper. There is no comparison re. things like longevity, safety, handling.

Ever drive on the interstate and see all those tire pieces on the side of the road?

Grandpa used to get retreads - 2 at a time. It was an every year thing. Dad bought new and they went for years.

My local tire chain (Dunn) has very low prices and every set includes free mounting and balancing, new valve stems, nitrogen fill, free lifetime rotations and free flat repairs. They beat Walmart by a mile.

Uhm, no. This is almost Porsche territory, certainly not Chevy Malibu territory.

Everything wheels & tires I let Discount Tire handle. Best prices and they are almost in every town. Sell replacement certificates too (I needed them several times), no issues or haggle. Free rotations and balancing too!!

This is not the '90s anymore. With today's requirements on the tires (faster cars, ridiculous road conditions, stop and go, etc.) I only want new tires. Unless it's for low-speed lawn mowers or construction equipment.

I always buy auto tires locally, but trailer tires are always online. The main reason is that the few local places that will bother with a trailer only carry crappy brands.

If I buy them online and then take them to a local gas station, when you add in the extras it amounts to a horrendous price. So, what I do is buy a new wheel (usually a chrome or custom one) along with the tire and the internet suppliers will include mounting and balancing for free. The bottom line is always cheaper that way. Then, I take the old set and sell them on craigslist. Now I'm waaayyyyy ahead.

There is a tire shop here that only sell retreads and used tires. The place is consistently busy.

FWIW 4 new Michelin Agilis Crossclimates for the daughter's '99 Tahoe put me back a $1100 installed.

Way cheaper than a casket.

I haven't bought retreads in decades but I never had a problem with them. I don't think that car retreads shed pieces like truck tires do.

I'm a longtime customer of Dunn Tire in Williamsville. " Out the door pricing" lol……. I put Vredstein 20" all season on my wife's Audi this fall. The original Good Year only lasted 30k. But they are run flats and I suppose the harder rubber compound deteriorates faster.
